Cinelinx have posted a new image of the Tatooine set that was built at Pinewood Studios for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars VII. Currently filming has been halted on the project but should start up again quite soon. It is nice to see Luke Skywalker's desert-like home planet of Tatooine will be featured in the franchise once again. Do you like that, or do you think J.J. is succumbing to fan-service?

I think Lucas' original intent in AOTC was that Palpatine was controlling the Sandpeople when they kidnapped Shmi and tortured her. An act that helped guide Anakin to the dark side. It seems he intended that Shmi had a connection to Palpatine before he used her to carry "the chosen one".
Palpatine was probably causing Anakin's visions in ROTS also.

So really Anakin had a pitiful existence where his birth and every major event in his life was manipulated by Palpatine and he never even knew it.

Too bad Lucas didn't explore his own story and ideas deeper. He even left Anakin's seeming destiny to free slaves on Tatooine unfulfilled.
