Woody Harrelson Seemingly Confirms The Name Of The Character He'll Be Playing In The Young HAN SOLO Movie
Fans have been speculating about Woody Harrelson's role in the Han Solo anthology film ever since it was announced that he'd signed on, and now the actor appears to have let the cat out of the bag...
When it was announced that Woody Harrelson had joined the cast of Phil Lord and Chris Miller Han Solo origins movie we were told that he'd be playing the burgeoning space-smuggler's mentor, and following that, Harrelson himself revealed that his character would be a criminal. These two pieces of information led many to speculate that the Hunger Games actor might be playing Garris Shrike, and it looks like they were spot on.
During an interview with Variety, Harrelson was asked straight out of he was going to portray Shrike, and after some consideration, he seemingly decided to confirm it:
Garris Shrike was created for the Expanded Universe novel, The Paradise Snare, back in 1997. Though the character was indeed a mentor of sorts to an orphaned Solo, teaching him how to fly and excel at being a scoundrel, he was also abusive to his young charge and this led to a parting of ways.
We don't know how much of this story will be incorporated into the movie of course, but one would assume at least a few elements will be used when crafting the volatile relationship between Shrike and Solo.
Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are producing the Han Solo standalone flick, which is expected to begin production very soon, and is currently set to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
