Some "Sgt. Rock" Non-News

Guy Ritchie is doing Sherlock Holmes right now, but he was interrogated by MTV recently about the Sgt. Rock movie he'll be helming... and he really didn't say much, but here's what he DID say.

“I think people are slightly intimidated by the size of the budget,” Ritchie told MTV, “but I think we have a good script.”

When asked about who he had in mind for Sgt. Rock...

“I’m not going to tell you,” he laughed, only to add that his intended actor wouldn’t be someone who appeared in his past films. The actor he’d like to see portray Sgt. Frank Rock on the big screen would be “a new person,” Ritchie explained.

Ritchie was similarly mum on much of the rest of the film, though he confirmed that Sgt. Rock’s companions in “Easy Company” would be appearing in the film (”They’re in there”) and that it would indeed be set during WWII.

Heard of him, haven't read a single thing involving him...Besides WHERE'S ALL THE MOVIES PEOPLE WANT TO SEE? They need to stop green lighting all this stuff that is so NICHE it's retarded. I don't care to see Sgt Rock, or Kick Ass, or Jonah Hex or Magdalena. Bring me a damned good Superman movie, a Flash movie, GL, Thor, Spiderman 4, Wolverine, a new Daredevil, and leave all this other stuff alone. What...are they going to do a Rawhide Kid movie next? Geeeeez

AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

NICE SQUID AVATAR NOOB!!! LMFAO!!!!!

You do raise a good point ION but i really want to see Magdalena though. Hopefully, if my intuition serves me right, DC/WB are doing all the JLA superhero individual movies behind our backs in secret! They've infiltrated our websites and they're posing right now as one of us!!!

mmm, guess I'll have to look paranoically over my shoulder from now on. The squid will stay until I see Watchmen and convince myself there is no squid.

I think that green lighting an unknown character is much easier than a known franchise. Everyone will care less about the characters and expectations won't be as high, therefore casting will be much easier, same with finance, production, scripting, etc. I really think that right now, comic book movies are being pitched left and right (same with gaming), unfortunately most of the really cool and big ones will be buried under all the hands working on them, meanwhile all the other ones get done (I don't see any discussion for the Jonah Hex or Sgt Rock casting anywhere).

Of course I could always be working for WB and am just saying that to hide all the movies we have in store. Now we'll all be paranoid.

Ok, so I'm someone who actually remembers Sgt. Rock, and still has a good number of the comics. That said, I'm glad that Guy at least has confirmed that the supporting cast will be in the film. Yes, the comic is called Sgt Rock, but it's really about Easy Company.

Having seen Ritchie's other movies, I think he can do a good job with the source material, IF he follows the tried and true method of honoring the original stories. Kahinger and Kubert(the guys who originated the characters) were both military veterans, and they lent a grittiness that was absent from most(all?) other books at the time. Sgt. Rock and Easy Co. first appeared in the 50's, during the heyday of the much maligned Comics Code, when a lot of books were strangled of their creativity.

Good luck Mr. Ritchie...do not screw this up!

Well we all hope for your sake that they won't screw it up bubbadude. I mean, the worst thing about being the only one in the theater is to actually watch a movie that sucks....alone.

HAHA!

Shaman, that's a good one. I have a feeling I won't be alone though. Anyone who was reading comics in the 70's will remember Rock and Easy Company. And, judging from the audiences at the comic movies I've been to, I'm not the only one.....:-)
