We're about to see a lot more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...26% more to be precise! Disney+ has confirmed that subscribers will be able to stream 13 Marvel Studios movies in IMAX's Expanded Aspect Ratio starting this Friday, November 12 (which happens to be Disney+ Day).
This makes Disney+ the first streaming service to provide that IMAX experience at home, and this is definitely something movie buffs have been crying out for.
The MCU titles you'll be able to watch in this format are Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow and, making its Disney+ debut, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The IMAX ratio is 1:90:1 which means during key scenes "more of the action is visible on screen, just as the filmmakers intended." (as you can see below, the Russo Brothers are happy). "For more than a decade, IMAX has helped filmmakers take fans across the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters and now that epic journey crosses into a new world: the home," notes IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond.
There's no denying that this news is exciting, and hopefully a sign of things to come on Disney+ moving forward as there are plenty of blockbusters that would benefit from this IMAX treatment.
