SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Producer Reveals Whether Tim Roth Voices Abomination

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings producer Jonathan Schwartz has revealed whether Tim Roth was involved in bringing Abomination back to the big screen in the highly anticipated Phase 4 movie...

Marvel Studios confirmed early on that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would feature the return of Abomination. While we don't know the extent of his role, it promises to serve as a reintroduction for the character before She-Hulk hits Disney+ next year. So, is Tim Roth part of the Phase 4 movie?

During a recent interview with The Direct, producer Jonathan Schwartz confirmed that "Roth did some vocalization for us...he certainly was part of that process."

"There will be more of Abomination to come, so more of that story to be told," he continued. "With regards to Shang-Chi , it sort of came down to who would be the coolest character for this moment? Who do we want to see in that ring? And then understanding who would make sense for whatever ongoing stories they have going on out there in the bigger universe."

It doesn't sound like we should bank on much in the way of character development, but reminding fans that Abomination exists - and revealing his new look - isn't a bad idea on Marvel Studios' part.

We last saw him in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and that's not a movie we've really seen referenced in the years that have followed. Revisiting his hatred for the Jade Giant promises to be a lot of fun in She-Hulk, though we have a feeling the villain will be taking aim at Jennifer Walters in the series.

Are you excited to see Abomination vs. Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Rings?

@Saga - Sometimes I'd like to go back in time and confuse the shit out of Paul Bettany.

"Hey Paul, congrats on getting that sweet, simple job of voicing a computer in this new superhero movie."

"Urm... thanks?!"

"Btw, this job will lead to you getting an Emmy nomination in 12-13 years, for playing an imaginery version of the robot the computer you voice will have turned into, that's been willed into existence by his witch girlfriend into a magical simulation based on classic US sitcoms, on a show made for Disney's streaming service. Did I mention you'll have a scene discussing the Ship of Theseus with yourself, playing a retooled version of the original robot's body, who was previously killed by a genocidal purple alien in a movie making over 2 billion dollars?"

I know it's a pipe dream but I still hope to see Edward Norton somehow in the MCU. He always felt like a better fit for Banner than Ruffalo.

Maybe some multiverse shenanigans? Who knows

@Himura - Really of the movie banners, id say the best was Eric Bana, too bad he didnt have a more exciting scipt.

@Himura - Its not really a different universe though hell a recent what if referenced the movies events while having ruffalo voice him

@Himura - Agreed, Ed Norton was a much better casting. It’s a real shame that he and Marvel couldn’t agree on a way forward. His representation of the character was a grounded one if there can be such a thing and without the ridiculous humour that has crept into the MCU over time.

@Himura - Norton would be the better Banner for sure if they ever went the evil/misguided Banner route

@TheCoonII - I mean, in the last What If, the Ancient One split Strange into two entities in the same universe. So its not like its impossible to just write some creative way to do it.

That's great, but bring back the Leader already. That's the REAL loose-end from The Incredible Hulk.

Not referenced alot since 2008? Only recurring character general Ross... and banner referring to a deleted scene from the incredible hulk. But yeah if you don't watch these films, not referenced alot. Solid journalism.

I would hope Roth and Hurt wouldn’t be on the Thunderbolts or Dark Avengers together… two old guys who turn into Abominal Hulks.
But would be cool if Thunderbolt Ross took blood from Abomination to make his own super Hulk serum.

If it really was only “some vocalization”, Marvel could’ve easily gotten a voice actor to imitate Roth in order to keep the budget down, so props to them that they did the right thing.
ScottSummers
ScottSummers - 9/2/2021, 6:05 AM
@WeaponXCII - He's probably coming back in a bigger capacity in She-Hulk, with actual dialogue. If that's the case, then they would of course offer him to do his grunts or whatever Abomination is doing here.

I'd be offended if someone else worked on my voice overs for my character, no matter how insignificant. And we also don't know just how involved Abomination is.
