We recently learned that horror director David F. Sandberg is taking the helm of Shazam for DC Entertainment and fans are anxious to see what he's now going to do with the property. After all, there are any number of directions the character could be taken in; Shazam is so steeped in mythology, we could end up with a very serious film which delves into the hero's mythological background. Or not.
Ever since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were met with negative reviews, we've heard a lot about the different director Warner Bros. hopes to take these DC Comics adaptations in and it appears as if that too will be the case for this take on Shazam when it finally starts shooting.
"It's very fun, lighthearted movie," Sandberg reveals."It's about a kid who gets to become an adult superhero, so that's just gonna be so fun to explore." The premise definitely lends itself to that sort of tone and the filmmaker went on to say that we can expect to hear casting news "hopefully soon."
"To be honest, it was not a superhero I grew up with either," he concluded. "When I grew up in Sweden, there wasn't a lot of Shazam around," Sandberg explained. "So it's someone who I've learned to love later in life as well, so I can relate to [people who are] new to Shazam. I think [it] might be a good thing that I'm doing it, because I know what you need to learn." Are you excited?
