SHAZAM!: Dwayne Johnson Reveals Whether Or Not He'll Appear As Black Adam In The DC Movie

We know that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is hoping to shoot Black Adam at the end of 2019 but will he make a cameo appearance in Shazam!? Here's what the actor had to say about the chances of it happening...

Originally, the plan was for Black Adam to be the antagonist in Shazam!. However, plans changed and a solo outing for the anti-hero was announced before that was pushed back to once again make room for Shazam. Presumably, the plan is to now have them star in their own movies before bringing them together but if you were hoping to see Black Adam as soon as next year, then you can guess again.

"I’m not in that one," Dwayne Johnson confirmed in a recent interview. "It’s Shazam! and Black Adam and, with the way the DC universe works, we should — in theory — meet up on the big screen. But who knows." There's a chance that the actor is misleading us, of course, and it would be a wasted opportunity to not have Black Adam appear (then again, this is Warner Bros. we're talking about).

We'll just have to wait and see but we don't actually know whether or not Johnson has signed up to play Black Adam so that could be why he isn't appearing in Shazam!. Here's hoping he's deliberately just misleading us here, though. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section and stay tuned to CBM for updates as and when we have them.

So we've got a casting choice in Black Adam that's been hyped for years, and Shazam seeme like it might actually be a fun movie. How do we [frick] that up?

I'VE GOT AN IDEA, let's give a bigger lead up to Shazam vs Black Adam than we gave the formation of the entire [frick]ing Justice League! Surely this time we'll get it right, right?

I think we kind of knew that. I had doubts about the neccesity of a Black Adam solo movie, and by now I'm wondering if they'll even do it. Just put him in a Shazam! sequel, should we get to one.

The Rock really should be in the MCU, he just seems like a much better fit there then playing Black Adam. Maybe he could show up as Gladioator down the road.

@CurlyBill - I like that idea but I dont know if he would do it if he wasnt in the leading role of the film.

Well, he's not the center of the film so of course he won't appear in it.

Does a credit scene count as being in the movie?

Better for Black Adam to appear in the second Shazam film. First film focuses on origin and duking it out with Dr. Silvana. That establishes the character. Then, the sequel film should be a battle Royale against Black Adam.

@GeneralZod - exactly my thoughts. No one needs or wants a whole film with Black Adam and no Shazam. Save him for the sequel.

I hope we at least get a reference to Black Adam

They better at least tease the existence of Black Adam, have the Wizard mention something about one person before Billy who was Earth's Mightiest Mortal. That'd be enough build up for Shazam 2 where it's him vs. Black Adam. No need for a Black Adam movie! Just make him a huge part of the sequel and have his arc be the focus. Everyone wins.

"..with the way the DC universe works, we should — in theory — meet up on the big screen. But who knows"

that is too true a statement

A Black Adam origin movie Is basically the Scorpion King story from Mummy Returns. A guy is given great power to save his people but he becomes corrupted by it. The actual Scorpion King movie could actually be a Black Adam prequel. I'm assuming a Black Adam movie will instead take place in contemporary times but I don't think it's right to do that without him facing Shazam first. His first contemporary outing should feature Adam being full of rage and a thirst for vengeance against the wizard and when he loses to Billy Batson, that loss can humble him and then you can create the anti-hero version from that as he searches for his place in the world and finds a new purpose in protecting the people of Kandaq.

I don't know why some of you think that Black Adam isn't a complex enough character to carry his own film. If you read comics, you will know that there's more than enough there to tell a serviceable story.

Although I would like him to show up in a post-credits scene or have him mentioned somewhere in the Shazam film, in order to set up an appearance from him in the sequel (if we get one).
