Said Owen:
"No, I don't know where that's at, really," Owen told MTV News . They've been talking about 'Sin City 2' since we did the first one however many years ago. I had a fantastic time with [Rodriguez] on that movie, I thought the movie was seriously groundbreaking. I'm a big fan of it as a movie. So yeah, of course I would be interested in doing it — but I really don't know what the state of it is."
Were you one of the minute few who believed Robert Rodriguez when he stated that Sin City 2 would begin filming this summer? Well, Clive Owen just put the kabosh on your optimism unfortunately....potentially....possibly. Here's a slight glimmer of hope for those still hopeful, the character Dwight, originally portrayed by Owen back in 2005's visual spectacle, undergoes plastic surgery between the events of 'A Dame To Kill For' the rumored basis of the follow up and “The Big Fat Kill” the story told in the first film. Here's the synopsis:
Enter Dwight McCarthy, a clean-living photographer who tries to avoid trouble because he knows what he’s capable of. His tactics don’t do him much good when a girl from his past (who he can’t say no to) shows up and professes her love for him. When he finds out she’s in way over her head, it looks as though trouble has found him. What’s going to happen? You guessed it: people get hurt.
It's entirely possible that Owen simply won't be returning for the sequel and Dwight will be portrayed by another actor. However, at this point it's hard to say whether any of the actors will ever return as we've been given the same sequel song-and-dance from Rodriguez for the last 7 years.
Sin City, also known as Frank Miller's Sin City, is a 2005 crime thriller film written, produced and directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez. It is a neo-noir based on Miller's graphic novel series of the same name.
The film is primarily based on three of Miller's works: The Hard Goodbye, about a man who embarks on a brutal rampage in search of his one-time sweetheart's killer; The Big Fat Kill, which focuses on a street war between a group of prostitutes and a group of mercenaries; and That Yellow Bastard, which follows an aging police officer who protects a young woman from a grotesquely disfigured serial killer. The film stars Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Rutger Hauer, Carla Gugino, Michael Madsen and Nick Stahl, among others.
Sin City opened to wide critical and commercial success, gathering particular recognition for the film's unique color processing, which rendered most of the film in black and white but retained or added coloring for select objects. The film was screened at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival in-competition and won the Technical Grand Prize for the film's "visual shaping".
