Mickey Rourke has revealed that it will take a certain amount of "persuasion" to get him to return for Sin City. Rourke specifically stated,
"It depends," he smiled, "It depends on how bad they want me. You feel me?"
A portion of Rourke's reluctance has to do with the amount of makeup and prosthetics it required for him to have the right look for Marv.
"I did [like the character]," he reiterated today, "but I'm claustrophobic, so the the hours of makeup -- You have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It's latex and glue and that stuff that gets my eyes all red... I remember I picked up some chick at a bar in Texas one night and invited her to the set to have lunch at the lunch break," he grinned. "I couldn't take the s--t off. F--k it, I never saw her again!"
Well, Frank Miller has gone on the record stating that he wants Marv back and that the sequel will include the story "Just Another Saturday" which focuses on Rourke's character so I think he has the leverage to get what he wants. Then again, with a character like Marv, and the heavy amount of makeup needed to portray him, you could probably easily find another actor to step into those shoes if things with Rourke don't work out.
Sin City is the title for a series of neo-noir comics by Frank Miller. The first story originally appeared in "Dark Horse Presents Fifth Anniversary Special" (April, 1991), and continued in Dark Horse Presents #51–62 from May 1991 to June 1992, under the title of Sin City, serialized in thirteen parts. Several other stories of variable lengths have followed. All stories take place in Basin City, with frequent recurring characters and intertwining stories.
A movie adaptation of Sin City, co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller with "special guest director" Quentin Tarantino, was released on April 1, 2005. A planned sequel was announced soon after, but has since been delayed indefinitely.
