Earlier tonight, we shared the
disappointing news that
Spider-Man would no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Sony Pictures and Disney failed to come to terms on a new financing deal - but all may not be lost just yet.
Despite the trades initially seeming pretty certain that the studios had already parted ways and Kevin Feige had exited from his position as a producer, many of them did update their reports to clarify that talks are still taking place.
Now, the plot has thickened yet again.
When
io9 reached out to the studio, they were told that the "dispute is simply over a producer credit and negotiations are ongoing. They further clarified Feige has contributed to other Spider-centric movies that he did not receive a producer credit on."
Some believe this may simply be a case of Sony attempting a bit of damage control, as most fans seem to blame them - unfairly, we might add - for negotiations going south. We should find out soon enough, but if true, this could mean that there is still hope for Tom Holland's incarnation of Spidey in the MCU going forward.
