First Fox And The X-MEN, Now Sony And SPIDER-MAN? Is Sony Preparing To Sell Its Film And TV Division?

Just like Fox and its X-Men plans, Sony has a number of Spider-Man films and projects in development. But speculation is rampant that the tech giant is preparing to jettison its film and television side.

Could that landing destination for Spider-Man soon supplant talk of where and when the X-Men might join the MCU as the #1 topic among Marvel fans?  The news of Sony Entertainment CEO  Kazuo Hirai's decision to step down was something of a surprise.  So much so that analysts are predicting that it might be a precursor to Sony selling its film and TV side and solely becoming a tech company.

Of course, that begs the question of who might purchase it? Disney is the obvious choice as they'd surely love to outright own Spider-Man's film rights once again, along with other IPs such as Ghostbusters and Dwayne Johnson's Jumanji reboot.

Before Disney stepped in, Sony was one of the leading interested parties for Fox's film division.  There may very well have been a "second" MCU with Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Fantastic Four if not for the deep pockets of Bog Iger.

Sony stock closed 6 points higher amid speculation that a sale of its entertainment division might be looming.

In addition to The Wrap, Deadline Hollywood, and Variety all reported on a potential sale of Sony's film and TV business.
