Spider-Man: Homecoming isn't released until next July, but with shooting now over, it appears as if plans for a sequel are already being put in place. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are clearly happy with their collaboration because Tom Holland shed some light on where things currently stand with the follow-up in a recent interview with
WWD (via
Spider-Man News) at the New York Film Festival.
"My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going," Holland revealed. A sequel was to be expected, but it's interesting that they're already discussing that. Sony planned on releasing new chapters of
The Amazing Spider-Man franchise every two years though, so it's entirely possible that the
Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel could start shooting before that movie is even released!
How closely will Marvel be involved with that? Very, hopefully. It's also interesting that Holland says he can't talk about his next project, especially as
Avengers: Infinity War starts production in Atlanta soon.
The British actor may seem unsure about whether or not the wall-crawler will appear there, but it's hard to imagine Spidey not being involved in the fight against Thanos in some way, shape, or form...
