In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumours that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.
That Hashtag Show claims to have learned that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have agreed to share the rights to Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin. They reiterate past rumors that Willem Dafoe will reprise the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but note that we'll later see a separate version of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After fighting the Goblin from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, Peter Parker will start researching his world's version of the villain only to learn that he's not really a bad guy. Instead, he's someone with political aspirations who supports the Avengers and is even known for his charitable work.
That leans into the idea that very different versions of the same person exist across the Multiverse, and Marvel Studios reportedly won't be putting him in the Green Goblin costume too quickly. Instead, the plan is said to be a slow burn approach over the next three to five years that sets him up as a major antagonist in the worlds of both Spider-Man and the Avengers.
If this rumor is correct, it sounds like the character will definitely make an impact in Spider-Man: No Way Home's sequel, though he may also show up in Marvel's Disney+ shows.
The report concludes by noting, "Marvel has offered the role to an actor who has not accepted the role yet. This actor is a prominent New Yorker who has a history with Marvel Studios."
If this all sounds too good to be true, that's because it probably is. It's a rumor that makes for interesting reading, though, and the website did have a reliable track record once upon a time.
