With the news that Doctor Strange and Electro (played by Jamie Foxx, who previously starred as the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2) will be part of Spider-Man 3, many have jumped to the conclusion that we're getting some sort of "Spider-Verse" movie. It's certainly possible, but nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
One very interesting rumour that's been doing the rounds this week claims that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have signed up to play their respective versions of Peter Parker in the threequel. The usual online scoopers can't seem to agree whether it's happening or not, but Entertainment Tonight reached out to Sony Pictures for a comment.
A representative for the studio issued an expected, albeit interesting response to these rumours: "Those rumored castings are not confirmed."
It sounds like the studio is being careful not to outright deny anything, but why even respond to an admittedly far-fetched rumour if there's not so much as a grain of truth to it?
It would be mind-blowing seeing all three Spider-Men standing side-by-side on the big screen, and an event like this would definitely result in a $1 billion blockbuster. Until the trades weigh in, it's best not to get too excited, but Spider-Man 3 is definitely shaping up to be something special.
What do you guys think?
