SPIDER-MAN 4: Tom Holland Reveals The Bad Guys He Hopes To Face Next, Including A Villainous Spidey

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has shared some of his ideas for where the franchise could go next, including some surprising villains he'd like to pit his wall-crawler against on screen...

Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to use a lot of the wall-crawler's classic comic book villains, leaving fans to wonder who Peter Parker can face next. He's already beaten Mysterio and The Vulture, and burning through Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard in one movie doesn't leave Marvel Studios with that many options moving forward.

Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter all have their own solo franchises, so who does Tom Holland think could be a fitting next foe for his Spider-Man?

"I think there are some interesting villains," the actor tells Fandom. "I think Madame Web could be something that is really interesting and we could do it in our own way. I’d really like to come up against Wilson Fisk." The latter is expected to return to the MCU courtesy of Vincent D'Onofrio in Hawkeye, so a clash with Spider-Man down the line might not be off the table.

"I also would like to maybe see what happens if my Spider-Man becomes a villain," Holland added, possibly referring to Peter donning the MCU's take on the Venom symbiote or Superior Spider-Man. "I think there are some interesting things where you could make a film about an anti-hero, or things like that."

As for whether the actor has pitched any of these ideas to Sony and Marvel Studios, he noted: "There is one idea that I have, that I have pitched to the studio - but by telling you that idea I’d be ruining this movie so I’m going to have to keep that one for myself."

It's undeniably exciting to think about what the future could hold in store for Spider-Man beyond this next solo outing, and it feels a lot like the next trilogy will be totally different to the one that's about to wrap up. Those movies could involve Peter going off to college or something completely unexpected.

For me its probably Kraven/Venom, Kingpin and then Ock and a Sinister Six respectively over three movies, but superior Spider-Man could be interesting too

We'll probably never see Superior Spider-Man, which was a pretty new spin on the character.

@UXASIS - I've not read it, but (for the fans of this run) is it absolutely necessary for it to be Octopus' brain in Peter's body or would you be open to other means of getting that more brutal Spider-Man? And how distinct is it from something like a Kraven's Last Hunt (where another villain adopts the suit to prove he's the better Spider-Man)?

Since movies don't have the same kind of long-running villain rivalry as the comics, I'm not sure the brain-swapping thing is even worth approaching cinematically. Personally.

That said, I think you could probably fold the broad outline of Superior Spider-Man into a Clone Saga somehow. It already requires a lot of extra Peter-bodies floating around and a bit of wacky whiz-bang-science. Kaine is already sort of a prototype version of that idea.

Villains I want to see:

Morlun (probably in a Spider-Verse movie)
The REAL Norman Osborn
Kindred
Kraven the Hunter
Scorpion

Realistically does Kingpin really pose a physical threat to Spider-Man?

LSHF - 12/11/2021, 6:35 AM
@WruceBayne - That depends upon how the writers write the script.

Also, if not a physical threat, we know that Wilson has no problems finding everyone Peter cares about and threatening to kill them.

@WruceBayne - I never really bought the "Kingpin bear-hug" against Spidey, but I do think a big human hitting Peter on the head with a stick is enough to do some damage to him (if you can hit him).

@WruceBayne - Maybe not physically, but he does have resources
Repian
Repian - 12/11/2021, 8:53 AM
@DarthOmega - Kingpin and Alistair Smythe. I can imagine the Kingpin's face on the Spider Slayers' head monitors.

Also, Spider-Man and Black Cat together against the Spider-Slayers.

@WruceBayne - to be fair they have four each other in comics and cartoon

@WruceBayne - he could always hire an enforcer that does. (scorpion, Kraven, etc)

I'm sure that after seeing him go against this film's version of the Sinister 6 in a massive multiverse spanning storyline, it would only make sense for them to slow it down a bit, shrink the scale, and go within. The perfect storyline to adapt would be the symbiote arc. I think it would be cool to see Tom Holland dip into that darker side. Don't play it up for a joke, because we know where that leads...

They could really play up Spidey's abilities. Imagine a dark figure in the cover of night who is extremely agile, fast, can sense everything you throw his way before you throw it using his spidey sense, and is exceptionally strong. He could be very intimidating. We also know from leaks that someone close to Peter won't survive this film. Maybe losing his uncle, (someone else) his mentor Tony, and nearly collapsing the multiverse could begin to mess with him very deeply.

@DarthOmega - I know I just said this, but I think the best way to let Holland show some major range really is through a Clone Saga. Deranged malformed copies, something like an adaptation of Doppleganger, maybe the Jackal puts his brain inside one of the clones for Superior-vibes.

And I'd be happy to see Peter go a bit darker, himself, too. There's always room for that.

I would like to see MCU's version of the Lizard along with Black Cat but other villains like Green Goblin and others would be interesting

@Bluesman - But would they use the Lizard and Green Goblin characters after using other versions of them.

Spidey & Daredevil team up against Kingpin (you could even have Fisk as Mayor like he‘s been a few times). PLEASE. Please.

Leaven has to be number one for me. I don’t know about this Aaron Taylor Johnson version. Have to see him first but can’t picture that. I like Mister Negative too would be cool in live action. And more recently Morlun who is a really cool character who could be a real threat to Spidey

Kingpin with henchmen Tombstone & Hammerhead vs. Spidey (and maybe Blackcat) would we be awesome

Damn Tom, way to spoil the ending of NWH. Now we know Spidey survives...

It would really bring Spider-Man down to street level if Kingpin was a main villain in one of his movies.

Could be a cool way to introduce Gargan to the Scorpion alias and so on.
