SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star [SPOILER] On Being In Costume For The First Time And Improvising A Key Scene

There's a good reason why so many videos of fans cheering during screenings of Spider-Man: No Way Home have done the rounds on social media in recent weeks. The web-slinger's latest big screen adventure is full of fan-pleasing moments, but perhaps none more so than the shot of the three Spider-Men (played by Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield) swinging into action together.

Over the past couple of days, Garfield has finally started talking about his return as Spider-Man, and told Variety how it felt to suit up with his fellow actors on set for the first time.

"I think the first time we were all in the suit together, it was hilarious because it’s like just three ordinary dudes who were just actors just hanging out. But then also, you just become a fan and say, 'Oh my god we’re all together in the suits and we’re doing the pointing thing!'" he recalls. "There was talk about going to the bathroom and padding around the package. We talked about what worked for each of us. Tom was jealous because I have little zippers in my suit that I can get my hands out of very easily. To work his phone, he had to use his nose because he couldn’t access his hands."

"We would have deeper conversations, too, and talk about our experiences with the character," Garfield continued. "And to have Amy Pascal there, who has seen through nine movies, including 'Spider-Verse.' It was a revelatory experience for her, realizing how much life and time she’d given to this character. That was beautiful and profound."

The Amazing Spider-Man star then revealed that he actually improvised one of Spider-Man: No Way Home's best moments. "There’s a line I improvised in the movie, looking at [Maguire and Holland] and I tell them I love them. That was just me loving them." As you'll no doubt recall, that led to the other Spider-Men thanking that Peter before they all leapt into action together.

The sooner these three reunite on screen, the better. But if it never happens again, then at least we'll have a lot of amazing memories thanks to what Spider-Man: No Way Home delivered.

It's a very special movie, and you can revisit our 5* review of the blockbuster by clicking here

The whole conversation where they're talking about each other's villains felt improvised. It was beautiful lol

@KWilly -
Loved every second of them just chilling. Felt so real.

That’s why my favorite scene in AoU is the party scene and my favorite scene in Endgame is them brainstorming ideas about how to steal the stones.

@KWilly - There interactions were awesome, the only part i didnt like was the "You are amazing" part...it slowed it up. Very similar to the Thor "Of course, of course" in Endgame. Like, you had good banter then they went a LITTLE to far...but thats just me.

@CasualAF - i disagree. I think that was needed for the redemption arc. Everyone always said Andrew’s Spider-Man was the worst and for the person everyone says is the best to call him amazing was pretty cool and the of course scene is hilarious cmon man

@CasualAF - I absolutely loved the “you’re amazing” part. By the way what was the “ofcourse ofcourse” Thor thing in Endgame? It’s not coming to me..

@MyCoolYoung - Oh i liked it, but it was a little overboard saying it over and over and over again. like he could have been "You know what you are amazing, you really are" and been fine.

@JohnCastillo - its the length and repeating it over and over again. as i mentioned just recently, he could have said "you are amazing, no you really are" and be done with it and it resignate better WITH ME.

In endgame its the very end with the GoG, where they are going back and forth on who is in charge (thor and Quill). it was like 3 mins of them "Im in charge, everyone knows that" banter ending in thor just repeating "of course, of course". that whole exchange was like 3 mins and completely halted an already long epilogue.

@CasualAF - Oh yeah I loved that Thor scene too 😂 guess I disagree with both of those.

I’m really grateful he was able to come back. Unlike many I was in favor of him being the MCU Spiderman, and while I have issues with his movies I really felt like he was the Peter Parker I had always envisioned as a kid. I was happy with Tobey at the time but honestly you could have put Adam Sandler in the suit and I would have been happy to just see Spiderman in live action lol Andrew was the first one I felt like not only loved Spiderman but loved being Peter Parker and understood what that meant. Having been leaving high school just before the movie came out he felt like a nerdy kid I could have been friends with talking about these kinds of movies being into nerdy pop culture and science in 2012. While I ended up preferring Tom I’m just really glad he’s getting the love he is now and that if this is him closing the book on his time as Spiderman that it was a high note.

I really wish SonyPictures and Columbia didn’t cave into the general and demographic consensus regarding ASM2, and just gave ASM3 a chance to tackle the issues before they rebooted again. I would have liked to have seen what they came up with that trilogy.
However, now that we have seen Garfield’s Peter show his flaws and his failures, get redemption to a certain degree, we can now see how the other Peter’s influences affected him and his way of being Spider-Man from that point on.

@SatsuiNoJXA - I’m not sure they caved per se. I’m sure the critical reception had something to do with it but also they felt they should’ve been making a billion with their movies and they weren’t doing it.

They made less than days of future past, guardians, and winter soldier that year.

But also they just didn’t have any idea on how to build a cinematic universe. They just thought they could pull random characters and start making movies and call it the spider verse but it felt like a rush job

I always thought Garfield's Peter is the ost Peter Parker for me. His jokes, banter,wise-cracking is on point.

He was perfect in this. Really felt like Peter Parker finally, and of course always loved his Spider-Man.
