While Sony Pictures holds the film rights to Spider-Man, Disney remains in charge of merchandising, and there are those who believe this is why the wall-crawler has worn so many different costumes in the MCU. Regardless, there's no denying that Tom Holland's Peter Parker has worn a lot of amazing suits since 2016, and more spectacular efforts will be seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Some (the red and black costume) have definitely been better than others (the "Stealth" suit), but it's been refreshing to see the web-slinger rock so many different looks over the years.
When we caught up with Tom Holland earlier this month, we had to ask the actor two very simple questions: which of the suits he's worn in the MCU is his favourite and are there any from the comic books he still hopes to don? "I think my favourite would have to be the red and black suit," he said of the costume first introduced in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. "I really like it because I’ve worn it so much and I think we’ve really changed the image of what Spider-Man is."
"Also, the red and blue suit from Homecoming," Holland added. "The original suit for me holds a lot of nostalgia just because that’s where I started my Spider-Man career. I haven’t worn that suit in years actually, but I’d like to see if I can dig it out somewhere and try it on again."
So, it sounds like the actor is keen to take Spidey back to basics and put him in the red and blue. There aren't many fans who would object to that, and it's hard not to wonder if Peter might be inspired by any other Spider-Men he potentially meets in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That's yet to be confirmed, of course, but we can't help but think that might set the stage for another costume change!
We don't have long to go until we find out, but as great as the red and black looks on screen, returning to what worked so well in Spider-Man: Homecoming would be, for many fans, classic Spidey.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will exclusively be released in cinemas from December 15th!
