Spider-Man: No Way Home united Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield's three Spider-Men in a movie that's credited with saving theaters while receiving widespread acclaim from fans and critics. It's previously been revealed that Kraven the Hunter was considered for a non-Marvel Studios version of the movie, while concept art has shown Mysterio squaring off with Doctor Strange.
Needless to say, there were clearly a lot of different ideas in play for the threequel. However, Tom Holland believes it was always the plan to try and bring these Peter Parker Variants together.
"I don't remember," the Uncharted star told ComicBook.com when asked if Spider-Man: No Way Home's story was always the original idea for this third chapter. "There was always the plan for all of three of us to come back. But I think obviously, people were still doing their deals and in conversation."
"So, there were times where it was not happening and then it was happening, and then it wasn't happening and then it was happening," Holland continued. "And we also had five villains to try and convince to come back. So, I'm really glad I wasn't a part of those conversations 'cause I would've lost my mind. But no, it was a great time."
We're still curious to learn what the deal was with Mysterio's planned return, and not revealing that he was somehow tied to the Multiverse (which we've seen in the Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Men comic books) feels like a missed opportunity. For whatever reason, though, we got a Sinister Five rather than the Sinister Six, so there's still a chance Quentin Beck could target Spidey again.
It's hard to think of a better version of Spider-Man: No Way Home than the one we watched in theaters last December, and this idea to bring the three live-action Spider-Men together has clearly been plotted for a while. Hopefully, they'll get the chance to team-up on screen again soon...
