SPIDER-MAN Star Tom Holland On Reprising The Role After NO WAY HOME: "I Honestly Don't Know If I'll Return"

Tom Holland will reprise the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the sixth time in December's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and during a recent interview, the actor revealed that the movie is being viewed not just as the culmination of a trilogy, but the "end of a franchise."

This led to speculation that Holland might be thinking about hanging up the Spidey suit for good, and it sounds like that is a very real possibility.

While chatting to Empire (via @spideyupdated) for their latest issue, the Uncharted star admitted that his future as the webbed wonder is up in the air. "I honestly don’t know if I’ll return," he tells the mag. "It’s the first time since I got cast as Spider-Man that I don’t have a contract"

We're sure the contract situation would only be a formality if Holland really wanted to stay on as Spidey, but it may also depend on the status of the Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures deal. We might well see him up on the big screen with Venom in the "SPUMC" (or whatever it's called now), but his time in the MCU could be nearing its end.

What do you guys think? Drop us a comment down below, and keep an eye out for the new Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, which should be with us very soon.

No way they'll let him go, looks like they'll have a stable spider-man storyline in over a decade. Guaranteed cash.

@Fogs - Yeah, if Sony/Marvel one day decide they don't like money anymore, then yeah he's done.

@Fogs - Well they can age him up and continue with a new actor like Nicholas Hoult or George Mackay. Spider-man still has stories as a college student or adult too.

Either way if he leaves, stays, or gets recasted....spider-man will always make money. he's on the same money level as batman where it is very hard to fail at the box office.

@Fogs - my feelings are that this particular movie will introduce multiple spidermen and Sony will continue the franchise with whatever one is received best by fans. Maybe Tobey, Garfield, Miles Morales... who knows.

@Fogs - Agreed, sometimes people forget these characters are just assets and worth huges amounts of cash. If having Tom playing Spider-Man and sharing with Disney/Marvel works Sony are not going to stop.

@JonC - I thought of that too.

My guess would be Miles, to shake things up. Maybe even have Miguel O'Hara in the mix.

@Fogs - Sony is just the kind of company that would pull that on an actor... have the start of something good and then pull the rug out from under them to take another roll of the dice gamble with a creative decision.

I’ll just refer to the Chris Evans and RDJ comments after their contracts were fulfilled. Act like you might be done with the role and don’t care about keeping it then negotiate a big money contract to keep playing the character for another decade… again.

@slickrickdesigns - Exactly, the actors and actresses are just money machines and will increase their worth whenever possible. If you want to up your contract the opening play like you say is ‘I’m not interested’

Easily one of the better actors to portray the actor. Highly doubt the studio won't do whatever they cam to keep him.

Uhhh I thought it went marvel, Sony, marvel (IW&EG counting as one), Sony, Sony, marvel, meaning he’s supposed to appear in Fantastic 4 or somethin… but how? If he gets multiverses out of the MCU? Unless… Dang. They counted IW&EG as two.

@TheWalkingCuban - Yes IW and EG count as two seperate movies, they even had to extend Evans and Hemsworth contract for EG, as their deal ended with IW.

Now the character Spider-Man is still schedule to appear in another MCU film (which one we dont know), but Tom himself as of now is not contracted to appear after this one

@eagc1995 - oh I see now. Well dang who would we get, Tobey? “Hey Bruce how’s the arm?” “Who even are you?” “I’m P-p-professor Quirrel, haha get it like on-“ “Get Out” “close! But with more nearly headless ghosts haha! Well one is more than zero right? Haha, I’m just kiddin, hi I’m variant Peter Parker nice to meet you, oh you can’t shake my hand HAHA duhhh!” “I’m gonna go. Guys? Call me later we need to talk” “WHOA, zoom conference! Haha nice!”

He’ll return. Sony needs him too much. Marvel needs him too much (but less than Sony, I think). And audiences generally like him. He’s staying.
