New York Comic-Con was filled with news about all the latest Marvel games. While we didn't get an announcement regarding a sequel to Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man, we did get the next best thing: a new title in Marvel's Gamerverse, a comic book series based on the popular PS4 game.

Marvel's Spider-Man: The Black Cat Strikes will be the next mini-series in the Gamerverse, arriving in stores in January. Written by Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum with art by Luca Maresca, the five-issue limited series will explore the previously untold stories of Spider-Man and Black Cat's complicated relationship.

Like Marvel's Spider-Man: Velocity and City at War before it, the newest series will cover topics alluded to in the game but not fully explored.

Black Cat Strikes cover

Following the events of MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN: VELOCITY and CITY AT WAR, Spider-Man now finds himself in the middle of a gang war in New York City. But as he butts heads with the likes of Hammerhead and the Maggia, the unexpected reappearance of old flame Felicia Hardy AKA the Black Cat sets Spider-Man’s world on fire!

Black Cat’s heroic days are behind her, but what is the secret behind the treasures she’s thieving?  And why would Spider-Man let her go?! Delve into previously untold tales of Spider-Man and Black Cat’s relationship, and a shock ending that will make your webs spin!

Marvel's Spider-Man: The Black Cat Strikes #1 arrives in comic stores in January 2020.

@Reeds2Much @sneakybastard it's a new series in the "Gamerverse" comic book line based on the Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 game (I changed the headline to add comic to better reflect that).

@LongMayHeReign - Depends on your opinion. Spidey married Mary Jane, and dated Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy, Liz Allen, Carol Danvers, Cindy Moon, Silver Sable, Betty Brant, Carlie Cooper, and in the Ultimate Universe, Kitty Pryde.

Batman on the other hand has married Selina Kyle and Talia al Ghul, was at one point engaged to Silver St Cloud and in the original DC continuity back when Batman first debuted, was also engaged to Julie Madison. He has also dated Vicki Vale, Kathy Kane, Julia Pennyworth (yes, he once dated Alfred’s daughter), Pamela Isley, and Zatanna Zatara.

Bruce Timm also introduced in the DCAU Bruce dating Barbara Gordon (The Killing Joke isn’t the first time Bruce Timm made Bruce/Barbara a thing. He did that all the way back with Batman Beyond) and Wonder Woman, both of which were frankly stupid in my opinion (I know some people like Bruce/Diana, but I personally find the pairing to be dumb and awful. You can maybe get Clark/Diana to work in a special case like Kingdom Come, but otherwise the Trinity should not be paired together).

They did Black Cat properly so this should be fine.

Hopefully if they draw flashback scenes, they’ll draw Spidey in his correct classic outfit and not the new one he gets in the game.

I'm sure the comic is fine, but really? Gamerverse? That logo and name looks like a bad Facebook page.
