Proving single-player-only games are far from dead, Insomniac Games' latest PlayStation 4 exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man, has set a new PlayStation sales record.

The official PlayStation Twitter account announced today that the critically acclaimed action-adventure title, which has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, is the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation title ever with more than 3.3 million copies sold in its first three days. Marvel's Spider-Man was released earlier this month on September 7, exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Marvel's Spider-Man is widely regarded as not only one of the best Spider-Man games available but one of the best superhero games as well. The game has received praise for its original story, breathtaking visuals, and gameplay mechanics. The web-swinging traversal mechanic, in particular, has received most of the attention.

Thankfully, your adventure as the neighborhood friendly web-slinger doesn't have to end after you beat the game. Insomniac Games has already announced a three-part DLC add-on. Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps will consist of three episodic adventures with the first, The Heist, releasing October 23. Previously teased, The Heist will introduce Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, into the game as she returns to New York.

@Ronan3Accuser - Barely bruh, the swinging was too real. The first day I played 2 story missions then just swung for 7 hours with a big dumb grin on my face.

But man, that last boss fight and then the scene that followed...

@LongMayHeReign - I haven’t had time to play it yet. The last game I beat was God of War. I did the same thing. Beat it in 4 or 5 days and I haven’t played it since.

@XelCorp - Just a hunch, I've followed game development much longer than I have movies and these days it takes games anywhere from 3-6 years to be made depending on the size of the dev team.

With a property as hot as Avengers you can be sure that Crystal Dynamics will have their entire team working on it and it'll be 2 years since it was announced by the time E3 2019 comes around.

So long story short I think we will see something at E3 next year and to me that's soon.

@Ronan3Accuser - Having a cover system for some characters makes sense.

This is why I've always been skeptical of a real robust Avengers, Justice League, or X-Men game. Different characters should play so differently that it's difficult to design a game for all of them. Iron Man should be a flight sim, Widow should be a stealth and shoot game, Hulk should be... Ultimate Destruction, really.

The Alliance games were fun, but hardly satisfying to have all of your characters Diablo-ing their way through the levels.

@Spock0Clock - Character based levels would be the only way then. And have a special you activate to call for back up. Like Iron Man flying over and giving cover fire. Hulk running down guys or ground smash. Thor raining lightning down. I like leveling up and the team ups they had on alliance. Hopefully they will release something about soon.

@LongMayHeReign - completely agree. I played the whole game with it after unlocking it. I was going to use the Infinity War suit but it looks kinda puffy in the face to me

The scariest thing about Spider-Man PS4 is that it's not even the perfect version of itself yet. If the jump between this and its inevitable sequel is similar to the jump between Asylum and City, we aren't even close to ready
