Surprising New SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Details Revealed; Will It Connect To The MCU?

Some new details about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have been revealed, including whether or not the movie will have any ties to the MCU and the version of Peter Parker who will swing into the story.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller appeared at the Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil this weekend and revealed some new details about the spectacular looking animated movie. For starters, they've confirmed there won't be any connections between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this release, so forget about a Tom Holland cameo!

That's a shame because if this really is an inter-dimensional adventure, it would have been easy for the MCU's Spidey to make an appearance of some sort. Here's where things get really interesting, though.

The Peter Parker that shows up in Into the Spider-Verse is going to be a middle-aged man and not someone who is just a few years older than Miles Morales. The original Spider-Man will serve as a mentor to the youngster and the movie will revolve around him passing the baton to his counterpart.

I love the look of this film. Reminds me a lot of Spider-man the New Animated Series.

If they're going to have an older Peter Parker show up to mentor Miles then it sounds like they're at least partially basing this on Spider-men.

In other words, Batman Beyond.

Which John Campea said that would never work as a movie. Well, here's this; I wonder if he'll be right, or very wrong.

@norseman79 - No, he is right. Thank god. They have the chance to do something unique and different with this movie, not everything has to be connected to the MCU to stick in references.

@norseman79 - yea it would have been dumb to have this connected to the MCU.

Related, I've love to see Marvel start making theatrical animated films with their characters (not connected to the MCU). Sort of like a separate animated MCU.

@Krampus -

Really excited to see how Spidey moves in the city.

Perfectly okay with that. No need to try and connect an animated property with live action stuff. Let it live in it's own world and tell it's own stories, much like Big Hero 6 did the same thing.

If this were a Spider-Verse movie like the comic arc then there would be a connection to the MCU along with all other Spider-Man films and TV series.
