Before Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 was scrapped in favour of Marc Webb's 3D reboot (which will feature Andrew Garfield in the title role) reports indicated that RED star John Malkovich would be playing the movies main villain, the Vulture. Here's what he had to say about that as well as the chances of starring in the reboot.

"There wasn't really a script as far as I knew. There were some pages. Sam Raimi was very open about that. It was very much a work in progress."

"I have not had another conversation," he told MTV News when asked about the reboot. "Sam called me to tell me that as far as he was concerned, it was off. ... I have no idea what's happening with it."

"It's obvious that 'Spider-Man 4' was going to be a lot of money to make."

Malkovich is good, but Ben Kingsly is the perfect vulture.

That one was a close call. Vulturess and a mechavulture would have been... just NO.

I'm actually glad that we're getting this reboot instead of Spider-Man 4. Don't get me wrong, I still have huge doubt about whether or not Marc Webb is the right guy to direct (and am looking forward to hearing more story info in order to find out) but the details we were hearing about this were pretty awful in all honestly. Plus, Spider-Man 3 showed what a mess things can end up when the studio and director clash so another movie like that would have been the worst possible outcome. Fingers crossed they're not going to go over the origins again though...

Oh, and John Malkovich would have been an excellent Vulture IMO. However, the problem is that as a character, he's pretty lame so even if they went for my top choice of Ben Kingsley it wouldnt be that interesting to watch! For the sequel, I'm crossing my fingers for Electro or a better version of the Green Goblin. Someone new would be nice though!

Wow...so it was true. They actually were going to do Vulture. They were going to screw up again.

Big sigh of relief...

Wow...that's a huge turd passed with nothing to wipe.

I'm glad this didn't happen from what I heard about the story and characters. And, I really can't stand Malkovich, he would have ruined the movie for me.

Looking forward to the reboot and hoping they get it right this time.

Good article Josh!

I would love Malkovich as the vulture. I hope they strongly consider him if they decide to use him as a villain at any point in this series.

Kingsley looks the part and hes a good actor, but Malkovich would be a much better fit in my opinion.

Electro and Vulture would be awesome for the first film, then set it up for Lizard in the sequel.

I'm glad that we were spared the horrors of seeing the "Vulturess". That would have been the lamest thing since that "young" Vulture from back in the 90s (in the comics)

both guys would have been good, but very different portrayals. i still would like to see oded fehr as kraven and josh holloway as mac gargan. vulture was kinda lame though, but just have one of them play toomes. he could be a continuing antagonist for spidey
