THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Concept Art Shows Alternate Goblin Glider Designs, Doc Ock's Prototype Arms, And More

In this second batch of concept art for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we get to see some alternate takes on the Green Goblin's armour and glider, Oscorp's prototype arms for Doctor Octopus, and more...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is probably up there with Batman and Robin as one of the worst superhero movies of all-time, and, well, it really shouldn't have been that way. With Marc Webb at the helm and villains like the Green Goblin, Electro, and The Rhino, it should have been one of Spidey's best big screen outings ever, but it turned out to be a complete mess.

The main problem was that Sony's "Untold Story" just wasn't that well thought out and their attempt to rush the introduction of the Sinister Six led to some seriously weird creative decisions.

For example, Harry Osborn became the Green Goblin before Norman, and Doctor Octopus' arms were spotted alongside a number of other villainous costumes in the depths of Oscorp. Now, a closer look at those have been revealed thanks to some newly surfaced concept art, along with different takes on the Green Goblin, his armour, and the glider he used.

Some of these are seriously weird and it's hard to believe they were considered for the sequel! To check them out for yourselves, all you need to do is hit the "View List" button down below.

Green Goblin Glider - Artist: Christian Pearce

There's nothing necessarily wrong with that glider design (it's something different, anyway), but what is going on with the Goblin himself? It seems taking the serum would have turned Harry Osborn green and made him look...well, I guess he's somewhat Goblin-like!

These gliders are very militaristic, and the way GB/LN is incorporated is very cheesy, but a nice touch. Why Oscorp would want to create an army of flying "goblins" is hard to say. However, you can see why the military might want them.

These would have been like watching the Green Goblin on a theme park ride! As weird as it would have been to see the villain taking to the skies in this to chase down the wall-crawler, you have to applaud these artists for trying to come up with something new. However, it's hard to believe this could have ever worked on the big screen.

Another weird take on the Green Goblin, Sony was clearly determined to make him a mutated human rather than someone wearing a suit -  which is all well and good...if he had looked as formidable as the Ultimate version of the character! Honestly, this guy doesn't look remotely frightening or intimidating and is just a bit silly really.

The Green Goblin was clearly going to get a suit at one point, and while Harry was wearing armour, it was seemingly only because he needed it to keep his new, mutated body in check. These green suits look a little more like what comic book fans would like to see from the villain, though.

This keyframe concept art shows Spidey attempting to save Gwen Stacy seconds after the Green Goblin threw her to her death. Rumour has it she would have been resurrected in the third instalment alongside her father, Norman Osborn, and possibly even Uncle Ben. That would not have been good...

Why was the sequel going to include Sonic Rifle Troopers? It's hard to say but these guys could have been under the employ of Oscorp and tasked with taking down Spider-Man at Harry's behest. Maybe Sony was planning on holding them back for that Sinister Six movie?

Doctor Octopus' arms were spotted alongside The Vulture's wings and The Rhino's armour in the bowels of Oscorp, and Harry reportedly had some candidates in mind for who could use them. Clearly, the plan was to rush through each of their origin stories in this iteration of the franchise.

Many thanks to Christian PearceAaron Sims, Long Ouyang, Andrew Baker, and WETA for this artwork!
