When Jared Leto was cast as the Joker for David Ayer's Suicide Squad, the fan response was positive and welcoming of the Academy Award winning actor. Then the reveal of Jared Leto's new visual interpretation of the Joker shocked many and had them questioning the decision of the Joker's new look. Filled with tattoos and metal teeth, the Joker image released by David Ayer sparked an outrage. Eventually, many of the fans got used to the look and are excited to see Leto bring the Joker back to the big screen.

In the brand new Suicide Squad trailer, for a very brief moment the Joker appears without the tattoos, without the metal teeth, and sporting a red make-up smile across his face. Check out that moment in the pictures below and let us know what you think? Just how far back in time does Suicide Squad explore? Will the film reveal the reason for the Joker's tattoos?

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, with Raymond Olubawale as King Shark, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Adam Beach as Slipknot. Directed by David Ayer.

Been saying it the entire time. Perhaps, it's in his earlier days? But then again, as I mentioned months ago he could just pull a move from "The Dark Knight Returns" and apply make-up to his face for certain purposes. Could be a nitpick for some, but I'd like to see the green eyebrows too eventually. He can always sport a different look for the Batman solo movie too. So for now, this is only an introduction to the many theatrical looks we'll receive down the line.

Don't get too excited folks. They're still there... look at his chest. You can see the two chest tattoos peeking out from both sides.

Absolutely hate that tatt on his forehead,
but because of the font style and the actor is being shot, it really doesnt jump out. n can ignore it.

But hell, except that, I m loving every thing about this joker!!

Getting more and more sold on this being Jason Joker.

If that is the case the tats and swag become more tolerable.

@JudgementalOwl He's definitely not Jason - Leto said in an interview that he imagines the Joker is really, really old (like was an adult in the 20s); a hint at the "Endgame" Joker origin. They probably won't explore that in Suicide Squad, but it at least eliminates the possibility that he's Batman's former sidekick. The rumor is that a la the comics, Jason Todd was killed by Joker, but that's only really been confirmed by the (completely bullshit) early screening review.

A few other random things I've noticed
- Joker taking the plunge seems to be linked with the scene from a set video where he slaps Harley after she shoots a trucker; seems like she's less his willing companion and more his victim. This would seem to be after Joker's Arkham breakout (and electroshock torture of Harley). Could this all be the opening sequence? If so, when the hell does Batman capture the Joker?
- Joker appears to be the primary villain, but Tattoo Man is there doing . . . something? Is he hunting Enchantress?
- Slipknot at least makes it to their first mission - but probably not much further.
