Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now available to buy and if early word on the game is any indication, it's proving to be every bit as controversial as expected.

While the premise of the story is right there in the title, many DC fans have been quick to share their disappointment with the notion that the Justice League will be taken out by Task Force X (the manner of their respective deaths, meanwhile, has done little to help matters).

Early on, the story reveals that Brainiac has attacked Earth and brainwashed the League into serving him. That leaves only the Suicide Squad, under Amanda Waller's orders, to stop them and save the planet from being conquered.

The Multiverse does eventually come into play and the deaths are handled in a way that potentially leaves the door open to each hero returning (after all, how many superheroes stay dead?). However, it's Batman's demise which has perhaps been the biggest sticking point.

That's largely because Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League marks what's likely to be the late Kevin Conroy's final performance as the Caped Crusader. Rumour has it he'll appear in DC Animation's Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three but this still feels like a rotten farewell to the Arkham-verse Batman.

In the game, the hero is gunned down by Harley Quinn after falling under Brainiac's control but, in what appears to be an effort to appease fans, Rocksteady has included a touching post-credits scene with a news reporter sharing some inspiring words about Batman.

The imagery pays homage to Batman: The Animated Series before ending by thanking Conroy for his contributions. It's an emotional and touching tribute, albeit one that may come too little, too late for some DC fans.

You can check out Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's post-credits scene in the player below (via GameFragger.com).

From Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible to save the world: Kill the Justice League.

Play as the Suicide Squad, (Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, King Shark), as they set out on an impossible mission to Kill the Justice League.

Drop into an expansive and dynamic open-world Metropolis ravaged by Brainiac’s invasion and terrorized by the heroes who once protected it. Experience gameplay that brings together a unique fusion of enhanced traversal, gunplay, and melee combat, combining free-roaming exploration and combat verticality for an unforgettable experience.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now available to buy on all major platforms.

@FireandBlood - why is it trash?

@lazlodaytona - Trash may be a strong word, but gameplay doesn't seem interesting in the slightest, for me at least. It's just some generic looter shooter, that uses way too much aerial combat with characters that shouldn't fight that way, with subpar graphics, boring group of characters, that relies on shock value (killing the Justice League) to sell the product.

lazlodaytona - 2/3/2024, 8:06 AM
@Urubrodi - well. that doesn't sound good.

why would a company want to release something like that when it spends years on that one videogame to be made? why not delay it for 6 more months? People have already been waiting.....

Unless you are in desperation of money and are valuing amount made over quality.

@lazlodaytona - Game looks like ass besides the mo cap and it’s reviewing incredibly badly, way worse than Avengers and Gotham Knights

Still haven't seen but i am looking forward to it.
It is pretty sad Conroy's last involvement as Batman is this animated film that apparently kills him off ... with a gun; out of all the other-worldly bad guys bats has survived against; he gets taken down with a mere gun... by the pathetic side-kick, goofy, annoying brat that somehow became movie famous through three sh1tty films; one she fronted as the lead actor.

Not cool guys.

@lazlodaytona - I'm asking why Rocksteady made Suicide Squad game? Imagine instead SS, they made the Justice league game and called it "kill the Superman" (including Brainiac invasion) where at the beginning you can play as Batman, Wonder Women, The Flash and Green Lantern.
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 2/3/2024, 9:09 AM
@MatteMan - WAY better idea.

except Supes is my favorite as a kid (and now). i'd be a little conflicted.
MatteMan
MatteMan - 2/3/2024, 9:52 AM
@lazlodaytona - I have a solution for that too. At the end of the game you kill Superman, but the invasion is not over. With 2 DLC they add 2 characters each (Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, doesn't matter) and DLC number 3 is called "Resurrection of the Supermen", and adding him as a playable character and end the invasion.

Is that Dana Delaney reprising her role as Lois? That's really apt, since she was also the love of DCAU Batman's life, Andrea Beaumont.

It was a little sacrine though. Laying it on a little thick for a dark, scary nightmare figure. He was Batman, not Superman. Would the people of Earth really see him this way?
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 2/3/2024, 8:08 AM
@ObserverIO - Of course. Once he started rolling with the Justice League, they was always going to look at him as this massive, heroic figure. Batman’s only scary to criminals. Just look at the end of The Batman or even Rises. Batman was very much seen as this heroic figure, even if he’s identity is shrouded in mystery.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 2/3/2024, 8:10 AM
@ObserverIO - Gotta remember too, Batman’s the most famous superhero in the DC universe next to Superman. He stopped being this overly dark and mysterious nightmare of the night after Year One and Robin was introduced.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/3/2024, 8:27 AM
@FireandBlood - Yeah there are a lot of versions of him where he's seen more heroically, KI suppose. But then it never makes sense that he would then go back to being this mysterious avenger of evil, because there's no more mystery.
Criminals are no longer scared of him because of superstition but because they know he can kick their asses.
He could even fight crime in the daytime and Gordon wouldn't have to be so secretive about meeting him.

In fact, would he still even count as a vigilante if he's a member of the Justice League? Are all the Justice League technically vigilantes?!

Holy shit, that moment when you figure out that Superman's a criminal.

I think I need to sit down and process this.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 2/3/2024, 8:35 AM
@ObserverIO - That’s been a plot point of conflict within the Bat narrative for decades now, how Batman just repeats the same cycle of returning his villains to Arkham. They’re fully aware of that, and take the piss with it. But that’s the game for Batman now, unless he abandons his moral code, and the cost of joining something like the Justice League. That’s why filmmakers don’t like putting Batman in a shared universe, because as soon as you do, all that’s lost.

And yes, he ‘technically’ is because they’re just vigilantes. Snyder made a point of that.

ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/3/2024, 8:46 AM
@FireandBlood - Most recently of course Matt Reeves has been wanting to keep his Bat-verse separate and yet that ending actually sets him up to be exactly the kind of hero that could realistically join the Justice League.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 2/3/2024, 8:53 AM
@ObserverIO - I think the only reason Matt Reeves wants to keep his BatVerse separate is because he understands WB’s intentions for a share universe is based solely on copying Marvel with zero respect for the creative process because if you remember, originally, there were Superman and Wonder Woman Halloween costumes that were deleted from that set piece in the end.

And let’s face it. Even if we don’t know, we do he was asked to get on board with what Gunn was doing, and declined.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/3/2024, 8:54 AM
@FireandBlood - Also you're right about Superman and Snyder really did lean into his working unilaterally, but he did at least turn up for his hearing.

I suppose they're all criminals, as Frank Miller once pointed out with the line "We are criminals, Clark, we've always been criminals", but the difference is that Batman is treated like a criminal but Superman is accepted. He waves to government officials and they wave back. Superman is vigilante service with a smile. Sometimes even a wink.

Maybe he's winking because he knows what he's doing is technically illegal. Maybe he should shush too, lol. Shush, don't tell anyone I stopped this robbery, wink.

Superman can do things out in the open. Most of the Justice League can. So why can't Batman I wonder?

I've seen some interpretations present him simply as someone who prefers to do things in the shadows, so I suppose that's a decent enough answer, but it doesn't explain why teh authorities don't treat him the same way they would treat Superman or Wonder Woman. Or even The Flash, who always stops for an interview.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/3/2024, 8:56 AM
@FireandBlood - Matt Reeves saw what they were cooking and said he was on a diet, lol.

He was even talking about introducing Superman into this world too. I would have loved it if he'd have been hired to guide DC instead. He probably would have delivered us something really special, something that would not only be able to compete with Marvel but that could also surpass it in quality and style.

@JohnBergman85 - It's just a game is such a shitty argument. We're literally on a comic book movie website. By that logic nothing that we talk about here matters and for every time someone complains about anything we should just go like, oh it's just a comic, it's just a movie, it's just a TV show... lol
