Jake Gyllenhaal Passes On 'Rick Flag' Role In David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD

We were all pretty disappointed to learn that Tom Hardy had decided to drop out of Suicide Squad (could this be the reason why?), but a silver lining on that cloudy day came in the form of Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal. Unfortunately, he WON'T be playing Rick Flag! Variety reports that the actor has decided to pass on the project, meaning the hunt is back on for a replacement. With an April start date, there's no huge rush, but based on the cast - Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne - you have to imagine that David Ayer and Warner Bros. will be looking for an A-List star. Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th, 2016.

@FordEl Jai has yet to impress in the big screen outside of a fun henchman role in JACK REACHER. was joking on the Worthington casting, he had his chance and blew it.

inb4 ppl say Gosling. He already passed up Deadshot. This would suck if it's a Will Smith-centric vehicle than an ensemble film, speculation of course.

I hate Hal Jordan but if Jake was Hal, I would allow it. He deserves a bigger role.

Of course even though the fact Phoenix dickteasing Marvel Studios into Dr Strange and Leto passed on Dr Strange, somehow Suicide Squad will be a failure due to Hardy dropping out and Jake passing.

I'm actually glad. I LOVE Jake Gyllenhaal, which is why i think he deserves a much bigger and prominent role. Rick Flagg is a D-lister at best, and nobody really cares about him anyway. His ethnicity is pretty maleable too. Why not cast someone lesser known?

I know this will probably get a lot of shit but I think Christian Kane would be good in the role. He's the same height as Hardy and can play a badass. I would rather have him at marvel as wolverine but I'd take him in this role too.
