No Plans To Release SUICIDE SQUAD Trailer; Leaks May Mean No More SDCC Footage In Future

Warner Bros. and Fox are not happy about the Comic-Con exclusive trailers for Suicide Squad and Deadpool being leaked by fans armed with their cell phones, and it sounds like future visitors to the event are going to suffer! Hit the jump for details on that and more...

This year's Comic-Con was good for footage, but bad for announcements. Only some of the former ended up being officially released, but two of the most highly anticipated 2016 releases - Deadpool and Suicide Squad - were not, and have ended up being recorded and uploaded by fans in attendance. Now, Deadline brings word that these leaks mean that major studios are now reconsidering bringing footage to the event in future, so you might want to reconsider going!

It all depends on whether Comic-Con organisers can increase security, but as technology advances (Periscope ran wild this weekend), it's getting harder and harder to do so. Sue Kroll, the President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution for Warner Bros. has even issued a statement about the Suicide Squad leak. "We have no plans currently to release the Suicide Squad footage that leaked from Hall H on Saturday. It’s unfortunate and ultimately damaging that one individual broke a long-standing trust we have enjoyed with our fans at the convention by posting early material, which, at this point, was not intended for a wider audience. We are still in production on Suicide Squad, and will have a big campaign launch in the future. Our presentation yesterday was designed to be experienced in that room, on those big screens!"

Unless they're willing to release finished footage online immediately after it's shown in Hall H, this is a problem which is likely going to persist. Some fans have suggested live streams that you have to pay to access, but someone would inevitably just film that and start sharing unfinished clips and trailers the studios don't want out there anyway, so...maybe only bring stuff which can be released in future? What do you think? Let us know your thoughts on this news in the usual place...

It's nothing different than the unfinished GOTG footage, that was leaked and never officially released.

To explain the click bait title (thanks Wilding).

Sue Kroll, president of marketing for WB, expresses her disappointment that it leaked and says it was a video only meant for CC audiences.

Unknown and unsourced insiders (not Kroll or anyone confirmed to work for WB or FOX) state this may mean no more footage at future CC (which sounds like a complete rumor).

The trailers leak EVERY YEAR. Sue stop fronting like you are shocked this happened. The trailer was great...release it so everyone can see it how it was meant to be seen and stop acting like pretentious bitches.

At least we got to see the footage, instead of just Audio footage

I get the artistic morality behind this and everything, but seriously, I think this only helps to promote the movie, especially because both teasers were awesome

Talk about being a party pooper. WB did great and even though lots of the things I saw was from the leaked stuff, it still was great. So this is sad news. Hopefully they don't decided to stop showing the goods.

Movie studios hate the general public and believe its alright to treat a select few people special. then get offended when someone leaks footage they should just [frick]ing show to everyone

If a majority of the reception to your leaked footage was positive I don't understand why you'd issue a salty ass statement like this. Better to say nothing.

Wanna stop the leaks? Go all Unforgiven at ComicCon. Make everyone leave their "firearms" at the door. In all honesty, the studios want these leaks. What better way to drum up "business".

Release the flarking footage to everybody!

God damn it BaneSmash, when I said "Maaan, I hope you record that shit so everyone else who didn't get to go could see", what I was really saying was "Don't record any of it asshole! The studios might get mad and cease to show us anything!"

This is all my fault for speaking in code.

I understand the want from studios to make the Comic Con footage special for the people in attendance but why not then release it officially afterwards for the people not lucky enough to be there? Attendees still get to see it first so everyone wins.

Regardless of how they feel, they should have released those trailers anyway. If they did it for BvS and even UNCLE, why not Deadpool and Suicide Squad, among others? In the end, the idea of releasing after the panel ends was great, thus eliminating the idea of bootlegs; but, the fact that they only did it once or twice still means they short changed us. So they're to blame.

They better not change this next year, and they should release those trailers now.

What do they expect, not everyone is gonna go to comic con and if they just release the footage online with the label "comic con" then people will probably accept that footage isn't finished.
yunglilmane

that shit is mad dumb in the first place though like they cant honestly expect for people to not want to see the trailer and someone to not leak it for them. Its inevitable man. Im sure if we all could've made it to Comic Con we would have been there but we all arent that fortunate and the fact the stuff shown there is exclusive to its attendees is stupid af to me.

whats even dumber is that everyone will have to suffer because of one persons doing. Comic Con is an event that anyone who can get their hands on a ticket can attend, meaning common people and people who work within the industry alike...its open to the public. Its not like a convention that only professionals can attend. Save that exclusive bs for stuff like that or start coming up with a way to ensure no footage is captured like making people leave their phones at the door with a system set up so they can safely retrieve it once its over or something if you really want exclusivity that bad.

idk man i just think thats kinda lame...whatever tho

This is BS. If the studios had half a brain they'd realize that leak footage gets most people more hyped for the product. It shows a valid interested in the film. I see it as a good thing.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 7/12/2015, 5:06 PM
I think this is BS, and just a publicity stunt.
Every year something is filmed and leaked. Don't be stupid to believe that studios don't expect it by now. Look at Fox with Deadpool, that leaked footage was the best thing to happen to that project.

The trailers they show at comic con are almost always changed, even a little when they're released eventually for audiences and that's for a reason. I really wish they would release all the trailers but then what would be the point of Comic Con? I think they shouldn't release it, the movie is so far away we don't need to be exposed to the big marketing already, let's leave it for the nerds who payed into the capitalist agenda to enjoy the spoils.

@kurtwarner1225, I have been saying this since 1976 when they shoved Star Wars down our throats. This is why I have 0 interest in SDCC. It's Comiccon, not Star Wars, Dr. Who con.
