Producer Dan Lin Updates On SUICIDE SQUAD Movie

A good while ago we heard that a movie based on the DC comic series Suicide Squad was in development at Warner Bros, but since that all has been quiet. Now Dan Lin reveals that there is in fact a script, and it is still a possibility...someday!. Read on for details..

We haven't had an update on the Suicide Squad adaptation in a while - aside from being reassured that it was definitely on the cards. But now while speaking to Collider, Dan Lin also reveals that there is a script, but we shouldn't expect to see the movie until WB are done with their major characters. “[Suicide Squad] has a script from Justin Marks," says Lin. "But that is on a hold right now. I think Warner Brothers wants to finish their A-list stories first and then we’ll talk about stories like Suicide Squad.” So yeah, don't hold your breath! If and when it does happen though, which team members do you guys think will make the cut? There have been several incarnations of the team over the years, but several members have remained pretty much mainstays, and I would certainly be surprised if they didn't use them - Rick Flag Jr, Amanda Waller, Deadshot and Bronze Tiger. The New 52 version of the team also includes the likes of Harley Quinn and King Shark, but really, there are literally dozens of possibilities.

What happened to Justin Marks? Around 2007/2008, this guy was hired to write He-Man, Super Max, Voltron, Hack/Slash and Street Fighter. After The Legend of Chun-Li tanked, we didn't hear anymore about him.

Why a suicide squad movie? Why not just do secret six which is what suicide squad failed at trying to be.

@spideyguy the suicide squad was introduced before the secret six in 1959 while the secret six was in 1968.

Suicide Squad would be awesome as a movie, they should do it now in stead of waiting for all the major characters in their universe to be introduced, otherwise it will never happen. A movie about comic book villains forced to work as heroes. There's a fresh concept! Batman and Superman are WB's comics comfort zone. They gave it a try with GL and it didn't really go that well, so I don't really see them trying to risk it again so soon. Which is a shame. They should just stop trying to rush out a JL movie and do their own thing! Preacher on tv and an Animal Man series - even Hellblazer - (adult and keeping true to the comics) would be great. And keep execs out of the decision making process in terms of script/storyline. Create a DC in-house department to deal with that . People who actually know the characters.

@Happy11 I know that. I'm talking about the more recent stuff. Because lets face it the new 52 suicide squad is clearly trying to recapture the magic of Gail simone's secret six, I'd much rather see a secret six movie before suicide squad.

Suicide Squad is one of my all time favorite series. The characterization in John Ostrander's run is unparalleled.

So...this is never going to happen then?

All joking aside, they need to take care of the major character first for sure

WB needs to get off their ass and make SOMETHING happen with a DC project.

So basically, this will never get done. I'm sure the success of Green Lantern also played a huge part in the production of this film, introducing Amanda Waller and all...

The writer for The Legend of Chun Li?!? OH HELL NO! They better get another writer before they even THINK of going ahead with this ish!!

Harley needs to be in a Batman movie first, other than that I'd say yes to this.

@Gunslinger- That's the stupid part, WB DID create an in-house DC department. It's called DC Entertainment.

Not like it's helped at all anyway. I have seen ZERO improvement since it got formed 2 years ago. Still only getting Superman and Batman.

Suicide Squad could have finally been their chance to do something completely new and different and CREATIVE.

Oh well

100% agree w/ Gunslinger.

Lobo
Suicide Squad/Secret Six
Justice League Dark
Flash
Blue Beetle
Shazam
Aquaman

Those are some I think would do well.

They're too afraid to take risks.

What a shock (not), just make a SUICIDE SQUAD TV show!

Might be cool... just no Smallville links to it and more comic book!

Arrow's a good way of doing it, I forgive you CW! :P

@LP4 - DC Entertaiment has done squat, wasn't even aware of their existence. Guessing the WB execs are in charge of that too, with their little charts, trying to expand target audiences and meddling in the creative process.

The flash series back in the 90s was pretty good for its time. The suit was awesome.

I think if you were to pull from all the various incarnations, plus Secret Six, you'd have something worthwhile to go on.

@LP4 They don't even have a CEO running the company. It's ridiculous!

Is it that hard to run a hugely successful movie company?

@KnightofSteel After JL is released in 2015, they're doing a solo Wonder Woman movie. It sucks, but we'll have to wait awhile.

@LEEE I think the Suicide Squad deserves a movie budget. Not a TV budget.

I wouldn't say no to a Nightwing TV series though. :)

I think at least to adapt to film Suicide Squadron is having introduced Deadshot in Batman movies. ...

but as they did not ask me how they do it?

Will they use the Arrow Deadshot or Smallville for that purpose?

Or make a Batman 4 where we see Deadshot as part of the villains?

because some rumors spoke of adapting the video game "Batman: Arkham Asylum" putting the Joker as main villain again

I just wonder if it will mean a return of Harvey Dent / Two-Face

because it would be an excellent frame of mind to use as Attorney Harvey Locos and to prosecute Batman, Gordon and the Joker by the death of Rachel Dawes and have brought chaos and anarchy to Gotham

I think they should make a Suicide Squad movie. I mean how many times can they reboot Batman? The Suicide Squad is made up of villains being forced to do good, who wouldn't like a change in story plots every now and then? Except I think that the team should be done Nolan style and be realistic. The team should be: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, El Diablo, Bane, Black Spider and Captain Boomerang.
