SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Responds To WB Boss Saying "The Ayer Cut" Will Not Be Released

The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign led to Zack Snyder being given the chance to return to Justice League and see his vision for the DC Comics team-up movie to fruition, but it doesn't look like David Ayer will be afforded the same opportunity for his cut of Suicide Squad.

Despite the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement picking up steam on social media, Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff made it very clear that she has no intention of revisiting Suicide Squad during a recent interview, and "the studio won't be developing David Ayer's cut."

Now, the director has reacted to this news with the following Tweet.

Not exactly an in-depth response, but Ayer is clearly disappointed, and was probably expecting a more positive update after the release of and reception to Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Ayer has always maintained that Warner Bros. made extensive alternations to his film, and that the theatrical release differed considerably from his original vision for Task Force X. The filmmaker has strongly hinted that a director's cut does exist in the past, and recently revealed that he's watched it "for the first time since it was abandoned," and that "it is f*cking amazing."

I'm sorry but I was expecting something a lot more and a statement about "what the fans deserve" and for him to go on about his "vision" and artistic integrity but he just put "Why?" and the adorable cry emoji.

@Waddles - TBF Ayer has more class than Synder anyway and WB not giving in on this is exactly the move they should have stuck with for the complete waste of time that is the Synder cut at this point.

Watched it 3 times now and just to clarify it'll be known as Justice League : The Prentious Cut from here on in for me.

Probably because it's not very good

@TheMapleSyrup - meh, if they can find a way to profit off of an Ayer Cut that wouldn't hurt any future projects then they probably would find a way to make that money, but with The Suicide Squad coming out, any attention to the older film may hurt the new one. I suspect if the Ayer Cut has a chance at life, its after Gunns film has been released and they've tapped that new version for all they can with toys and shirts and all that. Once the hype for The Suicide Squad has ended and sequel talk is dead, then the Ayer Cut might get green lit.

"Why" would sum up my thoughts on a lot of Ayer's creative decisions for the film.

He really just said "Why" and left it at that...

He's defeated.

LOL That was too lame and sad, even for him. Feels like the reaction of a little kid that was denied a present he knows he doesn't deserve.

unless the villains are completely removed from his cut then there's not really salvaging that movie. and the bland zombie army and piss color filter would still be present.

Why?

Spidey91
Spidey91 - 3/23/2021, 6:50 AM
@TheUnworthyThor - yeah, with Gunn's version seemingly being the better effort at the concept there's really no need for Ayer's "vision" to come out now, which wasn't the case with JL.

Honestly I blame studio interference on why it sucked so bad and I’m sure the Ayer cut would also be a vast improvement! Maybe not a masterpiece or anything but hell I’d get behind surfacing it. I didn’t like the first version it’s probably my least favorite including Justice League’s original release. Although they were almost equally as bad. WB clearly is just taking shots in the dark and their response to #RevivetheSnyderverse just goes to show how out of touch they are to their fans

I don't understand the hostility or resistance. I'm not a DCEU fan really (I'm not NOT a fan, but it's not in my top-5 franchises) but I'm always down to see a directors cut of anything. Back in the days of LaserDisc there were DC's of Aliens (Special Extended Edition) Scream, and Blade Runner (with and without voice over)... I even saw a VHS bootleg of Exorcist III with all kinds of restored Brad Dourif scenes! Al of these either improved on the original, or just presented another vision. I legit don't understand why we would say no to these when all they have to do is upload it to a streaming site and we can watch it at our leisure.

@AwesomePromoz - it wouldn’t be that if it’s unfinished they would need to throw more money at it but I agree. Let these directors show their true vision. People seem to like the Snyder cut so why not

@AwesomePromoz - Well for one thing now that Snyder's cut is out now the zombies are demanding wb just abandon their current plans and let him do his batshit (pun definitely NOT intended) sequels which if you didn't read the leak a couple weeks ago would pretty much destroy DCs entire brand

@Waddles - I’m not sure Snyder ever genuinely pushed for his but I’ve been wrong before. They both did some cryptic stuff and leaked some things about their movies
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 3/23/2021, 6:56 AM
@Waddles - Not really no, more than anything he apologized for what he did with the movie in general. He’s dropped a picture of Joker here and there but even he said making enchantress the villain instead of the joker was a mistake
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 3/23/2021, 7:05 AM
@Ha1frican - that makes sense. Was my logic too. For JL it didn't matter, since there is no new JL property on the horizon anytime soon anyway
