SUICIDE SQUAD: Jared Leto Has A Very Interesting iPhone Background Image

Some paparazzi shots of the Suicide Squad actor out and about in New York (still sporting his green hair) reveal that he's using a very specific Joker-related image for his iPhone. Has he been researching this particular comic arc for his role, or is he just a fan of the cover art?

As you can see, Leto's phone background is the cover to Detective Comics Vol.2  #1, by Tony Daniel. This issue marked the first appearance of The Joker in DC's "New 52", and is also infamous for kicking off a story arc that saw the iconic Batman villain slice his own face off. Not something that's likely to happen in Suicide Squad of course - but does this indicate that Leto and David Ayer could be taking inspiration from this more recent incarnation of the Joker for the movie? Heath Ledger's take was definitely more influenced by the classic stories, so it would make sense that they'd want to change things up a bit this time. Then again, Leto might just be a fan of the cover! What do you guys think?

But, yeah, I don't think that phone image means anything specifically related to the film.
That doesn't mean that they won't be taking elements from the New 52, though. I mean Harley being apart from The Joker and being a part of the Squad and possibly becoming romantically involved with Deadshot is all directly taken from The New 52.

In his review of the Suicide Squad trailer, Kevin Smith said it would be awesome if the Joker tore someone's throat out with his grill. Now I'm totally hoping that happens in the movie.
