SUICIDE SQUAD: New Details On Jared Leto's Take On 'The Joker' (SPOILERS)

We've had several Joker-related teases already, but now we might just have solid, detailed information on how the character will be depicted in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. Plus, another well known Batman villain is rumoured to be making an appearance! Click on for more...

Latino Review's El Mayimbe has posted the last of his Suicide Squad scoops, and this one relates to the incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime Jared Leto will be playing in the film. As we'd all assumed from previous reports, this version of the character will (apparently) be primarily based on The Joker from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns -- he'll even have those exaggerated shoulders by the sounds of it. Also, anyone worried that we'd be getting another painted on clown face can rest easy, as Mayimbe reckons it's bleached skin all the way. He also provides details on what got The Joker locked away in the first place, but obviously beware of big SPOILERS before reading any further.

"He's lean & scarred but his suit does have broad shoulders. Joker works out in his cell like an inmate when he is interrogated by Amanda Waller. He's doing hand stand push ups so it makes sense that Jared Leto said he is putting on weight. He's definitely not skinny, but in fact more muscular. He has bleached skin not make up. He's killed one of Batman's sidekicks, there is a lot of references to his past crimes. He kills a lot of people."

Very interesting stuff... and there's more! It's just a rumour for now, but Mayimbe mentions another Bat-baddie that'll be conversing with The Joker in his cell: Hugo Strange. No word on potential casting for that role yet, but word is Strange will be the prison psychiatrist, so we might be looking at some cool Silence Of The Lambs style interactions. Let us know what you think of all this in the usual place.

Dope! Always made sense to have the Joker be in decent shape and not an anorexic clown. I always figured he had a "Ryan Reynolds type build' lean but extremely fit! He needs to put up a solid fight but have a lean build (He isn't Bane :p) I honestly think Leto will raise the bat even higher as Joker and exceed Nicholson and Ledger. Hoping for a Hamill inspired voice and Arkham Asylum/Animated Series esque Joker!

"Kinnaman is reportedly playing alpha-male team leader Rick Flag, though, after talking about bulking up for the role, he adds with a sheepish smile, “I never said I play Rick Flag.”

Such is the level of secrecy on nine-figure tent-pole movies. Suffice to say the Joel Kinnaman you’ll see fleeing the New York mob alongside Neeson in Run All Night is a mere 182 pounds, compared to the 210-pounder we sat with in New York on Monday. “I’m so tired of eating,” he says with a grin."

Aweesome news! cant wait to see him and Harley together on big screen! I wonder if Harley's interaction will be when she is patient/inmate too? or like SS AOA interaction or some kind of intro of when she was his psychiatrist? IDK!! soo hyped about this movie, i hope his body (back) is covered with tattoos and scars! Whats next catch phrase? #REMEMBERWHYSOSERIOUS lol

With Ben Afflecks Batman being based on The Dark Knight returns version, i don't really think it would be so suprising that The Joker would be based on The Dark Knight Returns as well.

Anyway. I hope the Jason Todd stuff is true. One of my favorite storylines of Batman is Under The Red Hood and i would love to see it live action

Maybe the reason they mention Joker having killed Robin is that the first Batman solo will be Under the Red Hood.

I hope this movie is styled and cut like a crazy ass comic. I want dark shadows, leaks and creaks and intricate fight scenes... a batman cameo. This is starting to sound like a Christmas list.

Don't like all of this Dark Knight Returns influence on the DCCU. Frank Miller is a [frick]ing hack and doesn't give a shit about anyone other than Batman.

YES! Idk why, but I always wanted that in this universe that Jason would already have been dead so it could add more fuel to Bamtan and Joker's fire. In Batman V. Superman, Batman could be retired because of that and now Superman is in the light it's time for him to be a hero again which results in the Joker coming back for the sake of their rivalry

Very much looking forward to Leto's take on the Clown Prince of Crime. He's a phenomenal actor, and can play bat-shit crazy very well.

@DEVLIN712 Either that or Court Of Owls make the most sense. Under The Hood could be, depending on how it's handled, a very personal and intimate story which could introduce the Bat Family and some of his best rouges including Ra's Al Ghul, The Joker (And Harley Quinn), Black Mask, and of course Red Hood.

@BloodyHell For Nolan's take he had The Joker wear makeup but the most traditional form of Joker is after falling into a vat of chemicals arose with the look of a clown.
