The Suicide Squad may have underwhelmed at the box office last weekend, but it was a critical hit and proved to be what many felt was a step in the right direction for Task Force X on the big screen. Filmmaker James Gunn will continue to explore that world in the Peacemaker series coming to HBO Max, though it's impossible to say whether another movie will follow.
Something that definitely distracted from the movie's debut was all that talk about getting Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheAyerCut of 2016's Suicide Squad.
David Ayer lent his full support to Gunn's vision and shared his final comments on the movie in an emotional social media post. Now, an image from the "Ayer Cut" has been revealed which confirms that romance was on the cards for Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Deadshot (Will Smith).
There were hints of a connection between the two in the theatrical cut, but Harley rejecting The Joker in the final battle was ultimately scrapped and replaced with an ending where the Clown Prince of Crime broke her out of Belle Reve. This was something the comic books explored, and it's a real shame we never got to see it on screen (chances are Ayer's version will never see the light of day at this point).
