Various outlets are reporting that David Ayer is set to helm a fantasy-tinged cop drama called Bright, which will star Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Max Landis wrote the script, which is "set in a world where orcs and fairies live among humans".
That sounds interesting enough - but it's not the big news for us CBMers, as all reports also mention that Ayer would like to fit the movie into his fall schedule before Warner Bros. brings him and Smith back for a Suicide Squad sequel in 2017. A studio making tentative plans to follow up a big superhero (well, supervillian in this case) flick is nothing new of course, but it can also be taken as a sign that Warners are confident in how well the first movie will perform.
Suicide Squad stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, and Karen Fukuhara as Katana. The movie hits theaters on August 5.
