After appearing as the Joker's paramour in 2016's Suicide Squad and taking on Black Mask in 2020's Birds of Prey, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn will next make her presence felt in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. However, it seems Robbie is already having discussions with WB about where to take the character next.
“Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time,” Robbie told Den of Geek when asked about potentially teaming up Harley with Poison Ivy. “They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.”
Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan previously stated that she would be interested in exploring Harley's relationship with Poison Ivy in a sequel, but given the film's tepid box office numbers it's hard to see WB making a direct follow-up.
The ongoing HBO Max animated Harley Quinn series uses the Harley-Poison Ivy relationship as a focal point of the show and has found success with audience and critics, so perhaps that precedence will give WB the push it needs to move forward with a live-action interpretation.
The Suicide Squad is currently set to be simultaneously released in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6th, so expect to learn more about Harley's future endeavors as we draw closer to the film's release date.
