THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Has More DC Projects Planned According To Walter Hamada

It doesn't sound like The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has any intention of parting ways with the DCEU once Peacemaker hits our screens. Walter Hamada has confirmed that there's "more stuff planned."

The Suicide Squad marks Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's first trip to the DC Films Universe, but it won't be his last. We know a Peacemaker spinoff is on the way to HBO Max, and from the sounds of things, Gunn will be returning for more adventures in this shared world at some point in the future.

The filmmaker will soon be returning to the MCU for GOTG Vol. 3, but while speaking to THR, DC Films president Walter Hamada confirmed that Gunn and DC will be reteaming before too long.

“Gunn is always welcome back, whatever he wants to do. He really has a vision and he’s a great partner with us. Whenever he wants to come back, we’re ready for him,” said Hamada. “He’ll be back. We have more stuff planned.”

What could that "stuff" be? Another Suicide Squad movie is certainly possible (depending on how this one performs, of course), but Gunn did reveal that Warner Bros. basically offered him his choice of projects when he made the jump from Marvel, so it's probably safe to assume that the director has options.

What do you guys think? Any particular DC characters you'd like to see James Gunn tackle next?

@Saga - I could see that working. Maybe Plas could even be a member of the Squad in a sequel as a nonpowered criminal and safecracker who gets his powers on a mission, then he would spin out into his solo movie from there on.

@Saga - I will like to see his take on DC's Metal men as he stated in a previous interview before. Never read a metal men comic but will be glad if he introduces them to us like he did gotg for most people

@Saga - JLI with Booster, Beetle (Ted and Jaime), Fire, and Ice as the core group, filled out with Batgirl, Supergirl, and Static!
If no Supergirl, throw in one of the Shazam kids.

@mastakilla39 - I remember back in the day getting really excited about Barry Sonnenfeld being in talks to direct Metal Men, but I would lose my goddamn mind if Gunn directed Metal Men.

He'd be just right for a Lobo film. Think of it as the lovechild of Guardians and Deadpool/The Suicide Squad, combining bizarre aliens and worlds with bloody action and dark humor.

@RingSlinger700 - if they give him Lobo I’m bout to bust my Omega Men #3’s out of storage and bringin in that money. Praise God for the Bay

@RingSlinger700 - Too bad Momoa is Aquaman, he would have been a better Lobo. Bautista is getting too old to do it.

@dracula - Ryan Hurst would be great, not only does he have the look but he actually voiced The Main Man in Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

@RingSlinger700 - Would it be weird to have both Aquaman and Lobo played by Jason Momoa? I would accept it.

RingSlinger700
RingSlinger700 - 8/4/2021, 1:35 PM
@dracula - Definitely. In fact, they could basically take inspiration for a direct Man of Steel sequel from that movie. Then spin-off Lobo into his own movie.

@RingSlinger700 - I should have just said I was referring to our lord and savior Michael Bay 🤣

Nothing against Ray Fisher, but if Hamada's name is in the news this week I assume A comment from Fisher isn't far behind....

Either way its good Gunn is looking to stick around. Hopefully he can have some influence going forward to steer some stability in the DC Films.

@Origame - I believe that what he said he went through was true for him, but yeah... he just went in a bit too much for too long, and ended up dragging his own name.

That said I did quite like his fleshed out performance in ZSJL.
Origame
Origame - 8/5/2021, 4:37 AM
@Jaykay21 - but not only did he go way too vague, when he actually said what happened it wasn't nearly as big of a deal as what he made it out to be.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 8/5/2021, 5:08 AM
@Origame - Maybe from the outside looking in it's not a big deal, but when discrimination happens to you (even if unintentional or through ignorance) it is a big deal whether it's racial, credibility or talent otherwise.

There was some truth to his rants, I mean he wasn't wrong about Whedon it seems as even the cast from JL has spoken out about him and the reshoots... i just think he did himself no favours in talking soooooo much without backing it up with real evidence...

He's put himself in a box with no way out.
