Despite the fact that various reports pointed to Warner Bros. butchering Suicide Squad in the editing room, that and the overwhelmingly negative critical response to the movie clearly haven't dampened David Ayer's interest in the DC Films Universe. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that he's signed on to take the helm of Gotham City Sirens, a movie which will, "showcase the top female villains from the DC stable." Who those will be remains to be seen, but Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn.

Robbie is also executive producing the movie, and given its title and the comic books it's been named after, we can probably expect to see characters like Catwoman and Poison Ivy also show up here.

Unlike Suicide Squad, Ayer won't be penning the screenplay. Instead, Geneva Robertson-Dworet has been hired to develop the movie, and she has action experience after writing the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot and Sherlock Holmes 3. You'll no doubt also be relieved to hear that DC Films bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will serve as producers. No release date has been mentioned, but Gotham City Sirens is on the fast-track, so we may not have to long to wait before this spinofff reaches theaters!

Holland Roden would make for a great Poison Ivy. A great actress that happens to be a natural red head.

@Kr08 - They'll need a bigger star.

@Philip - No, they won't. Margot Robbie has more than enough star power to make this movie happen. So they don't need anymore. Her as Harley is what made Suicide Squad the success it was in the box office.

Plus, Warner Bros. likes to hire relatively unknown actors with talent. Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher being examples.

@Kr08 - They do like to do that - for "safe" projects. But Robbie alone won't be enough for something like this, Suicide Squad had Smith and Leto, even a little bit of Affleck.

Robbie will do wonders for this film, but they'll need more.
