On Friday, we learned that Sasha Calle will take on the role of Supergirl in The Flash movie which will take the Scarlet Speedster into the DC Multiverse. This promises to put the actress on the map in a major way, and chances are we'll see Calle continue to play the Girl of Steel for years to come.
The CW's Supergirl series is nearing its end, and Melissa Benoist is seemingly going to move on from the role. While there's a chance she'll make some guest appearances, it feels a lot like Warner Bros. is focusing on Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel in Superman & Lois on television, with Calle serving as the big screen Supergirl in her own franchise after this initial introduction.
Now, Benoist has responded to the news, saying in an Instagram story: "This is [100 emoji]. YES girl you CAN fly! Welcome to the DC Universe [Sasha Calle]. Cannot wait to see you as [Supergirl]. The world needs as many Supergirls as it can get."
Calle later responded to that message saying, "Melissa! This means so much. My little brother and I have watched every episode. This was such a sweet moment for us. Thank you."
This is a super cool moment, and one which serves as an awesome passing of the torch. While it would be a shame for Benoist not to continue playing Kara Danvers in some form, it feels like the character is in good hands with Calle, especially as she was chosen from over 400 different actresses.
We'll hopefully have more to share with you about Calle's role in The Flash soon!
