Yesterday evening, the news broke that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has found a writer in playwright Ana Nogueira. It's a step in the right direction for a movie we know many of you are excited about, and DC Studios' co-CEO James Gunn has since shared a few additional updates.
He started by taking to Instagram to say, "A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family. Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale."
Later answering fans in the comments, he confirmed they're already searching for a director to helm the DCU movie and said Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely "are the freaking foundation of everything." King was previously mentioned as being part of DC Studios' writers' room.
In Variety's piece on the news, it's seemingly confirmed Krypto will also appear in the movie, though Deadline shares something of a bleak update regarding The Flash star Sasha Calle's status.
"The hope was for Calle to take on a bigger role within the DC Universe but her casting was done under the previous DC Studios administration and before Gunn and Safran came in to take over the direction of the comic book films," reads the trade's report, strongly hinting that she's far from a lock for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
That's a surprise given Gunn's apparent love for the movie, though he'd be wise to move on from The Flash following the tepid response to it this past summer.
Warner Bros. originally planned to end that with Supergirl and Michael Keaton's Batman a permanent part of the DCEU. Reshoots which took place shortly after Henry Cavill shot his Black Adam cameo added the Man of Steel to the scene, with the stage then set for a Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover movie.
"I met him actually after the movie was done, months later," Calle previously said of her time with the former Superman actor. "I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience."
"I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?' And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel."
