I have now seen the Man of Steel twice. I greatly disliked it upon my first viewing of the movie. I wrote a review on this site and was blasted and abused as a result of my honest opinion. I was accused of having a Marvel bias, liking Superman Returns and various other things. Others are experiencing the same thing.
Why?
Most of us wanted this to be the Superman film we've always wanted to see. The Donner films were great in their way, but we really need a GOOD Superman film. Just this scenario alone is enough to produce great bias and intense feelings.
Having seen the film a second time, I really liked Cavill's Superman. At least, he has the look down pat and he did the best he could with that script. Unfortunately, I personally think the script is awful. The scenes between Superman and Lois are painful to watch. The editing is terrible. Jor-El is in the film WAY too much. And so on. I'm not complaining about too much action. I liked it. What I'm really trying to say is that there were definitely flaws in this film. Is it the best CBM ever? Not even remotely close. Is it the best Superman film? No. I don't think it is.
Can you name one scene that was more powerful than when Superman saved Lois from the helicopter in the first film? Was there a scene that just showed how awesome it is to fly like they did in Chronicle and the first film? Yes, they showed him rocketing around, but it was so quick. The film was set on 11/10, but I think they could have shown Superman just enjoying his power. (Also, how strong was he? Definitely nowhere near what he is in the comics...)
So why am I writing this article? People are entitled to their opinions. If you think this is the best film ever, great. If you think it sucks, fine. Since when is it a problem for people to express their opinion? I've seen incredible amounts of Marvel hatred, which is completely stupid and false.
There is no reason to bash Marvel because you so badly want DC to succeed. Likewise, there is no reason to bash DC either. The better each company does, the better they each will do as a result. This is a win-win situation here!
I'm finding it really difficult to read comments on articles when coming to this site. I also know I'm not the only one who feels this way. So can I just ask that we all try to be a little more fair and accepting of other opinions? There are no absolutes. If you think Man of Steel was the best film ever, that doesn't make anyone who thinks otherwise an idiot or "Marvelite".
Let's try to avoid a flame war here.
