In Black Adam's post-credits scene, Henry Cavill finally returned as Superman. The moment was even set to John Williams' iconic score, a strong indication that the Man of Steel will be portrayed very differently in the DCU moving forward.
The actor has already said he's "excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman," but that doesn't mean he's turning his back on filmmaker Zack Snyder. The Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League director was the one who cast Cavill, though his take on the hero might have been the opposite of "joyful."
Regardless, Snyder submitted a question to his Superman during a Q&A with Josh Horowitz yesterday. That was regarding how they shot the hero's flying scenes, but the director signed off by saying, "I can't wait to work with you in the future and you are, of course, the greatest Superman ever."
To that, Cavill responded, "He's a lovely man and I am enormously appreciative of everything he's done for me, especially by casting me in Man of Steel. Those are formative memories of mine career-wise. It was when everything changed. I remember them fondly, fondly hanging above fields in Illinois."
"Amazing memories and a lot to be thankful for," he continued. "Zack, if you're watching, thank you my friend."
Whether these two will work together again remains to be seen, but if they do, it probably won't be in the DCU. Snyder's time in that realm appears to have ended, though he doesn't appear too bothered as the filmmaker is currently building out all sorts of cinematic universes for Netflix. As for Cavill, he's expected to play Superman in a new solo movie with a fresh creative team.
