New reports indicate that Zack Snyder's Superman: Man Of Steel is eyeing Vanilla Sky actor Michael Shannon presumingly for the villain of the reboot! Make the jump!

According to the ever-reliable Deadline, Zack Snyder's Superman reboot is in the midst of casting (one of) the villain(s). And while a few a names have been mentioned this past week from oppiste sources, the site now reports:

"I'm told there's interest in Michael Shannon. Neither the studio nor Shannon's reps were helpful. "

Shannon coming off the first season in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, hes most known for his roles in Vanilla Sky, as well Pearl Harbor. And while the villain is undisclosed, what do you think?

Anyhow, Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner stars, while Superman is set for theaters December 2012!

@Dynamo- Agreed! His look SCREAMS 'Lex Luthor' to me. He has that rich, snubby look ;D

Shave his head, but him in a business suit and call him Lex and we're all good!

well if he's playing Lex Luthor then definitely going with a younger lex thank god, which possibly mean lex and clark having ties in the past. Well I hope it happens the dude was unlucky to be nominated for best supporting actor in the same year as RDJ, Brolin and Ledger

I have watched Vanilla Sky many times, and I don't have a clue to who he was in the movie. The only movie I've seen and remembered him in was Bad Boys 2 as the racist KKK member who they put in the trunk during the highway chase scene lol. That's it. I don't remember him in Pearl Harbor either. I'm good at this kind of stuff, remembering actors and faces, so I'm a little puzzled.

This guy is brilliant in boardwalk empire. I hope he isn't the main villain though cause i want to see supes go against someone that he can unleash on but also take a beating.

@Exiles- Indeed my friend, prepare yourselves everyone we may be in store for the TRUE Lex Luthor finally on film!

After being butchered on the big screen for sooooo long, it is time we got the real Lex.

IF there's an evil alien as the main villain, stay rest assured Lex will be there trying to profit by cutting a deal of some kind ;D

@JonathanisMagnum1985- Look dude chill out. None of us said Lex needed to be the main villain. Just as a side-character is all that's needed for Lex.

As for the Donner and Singer flicks- yeah they all butchered Lex pretty bad and since this film is supposed to be somewhat of a "band aide" for the previous SHIT, I would say Lex needs repair work too.

But I do appreciate your enthusiasm. But chill out...Lex won't be the main villain.

He needs to be behind the scenes pulling the strings.

Dude I predicted this!!! I been saying that he should play Lex on this site for 2 months!!! He like the one dude he in Hollywood that can play a character crazier than Heath Ledgers Joker!!

He was the security guard at the mental hospital Tom Cruise was in... he had like two scenes. I don't even think he had a line.

Very nice choice! This guy is creepy as hell on Boardwalk Empire.

I'd also love to see Michael Pitt get a villain role in one of these movies. I think he's one of the most underrated actors out there, which is weird since considering his last name.

If you haven't seen Funny Games, you really need to.

Lex has to be in these movies. He does not have to play the villain though. They should play him off like the do on Smallville. Billionaire and head of LuthorCorp. I never saw LutherCorp in the originals. By the end of the movie they should have Superman do something to royal piss him off like messing with his company causing him to lose money and be disgraced.

I'm tired of all the Billy Zane fans. The dudes best movie was Back to the Future and he didn't even talk. Sure he looks like Lex, but name me one movie he's been in that was actually good (including Titanic) - I don't want that type of karma on the new Superman movie

Brainiac sounds interesting as it pits Superman against intellect and ironmanish physical enemy which he can punch and smash to heart's content. Metallo could provide a proper lackey for Luthor but lacks the intelligence to be the main protagonist. Metallo/Parasite would make great opening sequence scenes ala James Bond

Forget Billy Zane! Also if Lex is in this he needs to be portrayed the way he was in Superman TAS. A Behind the scenes bad guy sneaking around, but never the actual 'Bad Guy'.

@HellsHammer- Thank you my friend, you stated very well just how Lex needs to be in this film. NOT the main villain. But he SHOULD be in the film nonetheless. I'm sick of seeing my most fav villain portrayed as a total retard. ;D

Some of yall laugh but this guy is one of the best actors in Hollywood! He was in Revolutionary Road for like 15 mins and got nominated for an academy award! 15 MINUTES! Thats never happen!! Who you know that was in a movie for 15 mins and nominated for an oscar???

Hopefully Snyder will put Lex in the film. He needs to ignore the anti-lex bi*chers and whiners.

Lex Luthor is an integral part of the Superman mythos. He needs to be in the film to some degree. Can't properly reboot Superman completely from the ground-up and leave out Lex completely. He OWNS parts of Metropolis and if Clark moves to Metropolis in the film, no doubt Lex will be there doing something 'shady'

^ Luthor is core to Superman, he will be in it. Having Luthor manipulate Zod, use Metallo/Parasite at his pawns and match wits with Braniac as to who can undo Superman would be interesting to watch.The Pawns could serve the action sequences that Superman desparatly needs and Luthor/Braniac the devious planning, kryptonite (duh) and moral challenges.
