Screenwriter, David S. Goyer, reveals to Entertainment Weekly that the children of Krypton (Superman's home planet) are engineered. "People were bred to be warriors or scientists or what-have-you, and there's a whole element in the movie about nature versus nurture," Goyer says. EW adds, "Kal-El is unique because he's a natural conception, free from genetic manipulation to choose his own course in life - which also makes his existence highly illegal."
........................................................

Another major revelation from the article is that Superman's main bugaboo, kryponite, will not be making an appearance in Man of Steel. "I'll be honest with you, there's no kryptonite in the movie," says director Zack Snyder.

Henry Cavill explains that this time Superman deals with a different type of kryptonite, instead of the green radioactive element fans have grown accustomed to. "Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties." Or as Snyder puts it: "It's all emotional kryptonite."
........................................................

Terrance Stamp portrayed the character as an icy warlord in Superman II, but Shannon sees him as more of a die-hard supremacist. "He actually has some affection for anybody who's a Kryptonian, including Superman," Shannon says. "He doesn't really have any malignant feelings toward him; he just wants him to be patriotic."
........................................................

"All their armor goes on top of the suits," Deborah Snyder explains. But because Superman's a refugee, his iconic outfit in our world doesn't have the snap-on battle gear, which would make him a defenseless man on his own Kryptonian turf.
........................................................

Traue's Faora isn't choking Lois Lane (Amy Adams), but activating a device to help the mere mortal breathe aboard a Kryptonian spacecraft while General Zod negotiates with Superman. (Faora's translucent helmet, meanwhile, helps protect her from sensory overload under our power-giving sun.) "I'm not threatening her, " explains. "I'm a good girl in this shot." Faora "is a psychopath," says Traue. "She is an engineered being, and driven by the need and pleasure of killing."
....................

Lois Lane (Amy Adams) - chasing down reports of a wandering stranger who is capable of superhuman feats of strength. "She's very transient. She's ready to pick up and go at a moment's notice," Adams says, noting that the trait is shared by Lois and Clark. "That definitely could be part of what she sees in Superman-not really laying down roots, not developing trust."

Man Of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder, from a script written by Chris Nolan and David Goyer. The cast includes: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Chris Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne, Julian Richings and Richard Schiff. Man Of Steel flies into theaters June 14th, 2013!

Interesting... It makes sense that the Kryptonians would be into genetic manipulation.

There is no Kryptonite in the movie....

They just dropped the bomb completely by doing that...it's done and it's over. Emo Kryptonite what a joke you know I am seriously getting sick of this. No Kryptonite? It has been the main basis for Superman's Villains like Lex Luthor. It has been his only weakness and one of the most important plot points and you are saying they just threw it out the window completely. Yeah real smart move.

John Byrne did this, Kryptonians weren't allowed to touch each other.

Jor-El was a bad-boy, made Kal with sweat while other Kryptonians were made from IV fertalization.

Why the [frick] would Kypronite be in THIS film?

There saving it for Luther.

Superman has to worry about growing uo, being alienated, new world, foster parents, identity, jobs, the world, strenght, Zod and other things.

The green shit would be a excess.

If they are not even going to bother establishing the presence of Kryptonite as his weakness in the first film then why would they bother to rush it through in the sequel, oh yeah I forgot it's WB. Face it, they are smooching up the grounded and realism crap too far. Kryptonite is an important plot point. Batman can only defeat Superman with Kryptonite. Metallo a Supermsn villain is powered by Kryptonite. Lex Luthor I have no idea how the hell he is going to beat Supermsn without Kryptonite. If they are going to do it right at least establish a point not just skipping over it. The last few DC films have been average at best, only if they knew they had more superheroes....

@TheMysteriousStranger - I think you are missing the point here, it is far better to explore Kryptonite in the sequel and as the way for Lex to try and defeat him.

I'm with the rest, this sounds awesome and refreshing, sick to death of the previous Lex and Kryptonite movies. I hope like Batman Begins, that they tease us at the end with Lex and Brainiac.

Save Darkseid for a Justice league movie.

Missing the point as in we may have another Green Lantern on our hands, another DC film which threw away alot of important plot points to the character practically ruining him. Superman is not Batman. Batman works in grounded terms because he is more of a human character. Superman is a goddamn alien from another planet who landed on Earth and suddenly fights crime, how do you relate that too reality. I think Batmsn is more possible in terms of if I walked outside right now I would be 100% likely to see some bat signal in the sky. Supermsn is beyond pure science fiction, you do not simple ground an element like science fiction. That is what makes this even more silly with what he is saying with this emo Kryptonite crap. No matter one way or another it's not going to work. No one is going to tell the difference between the comic and film because one way or another there is still a guy flying around in a skin tight outfit. That is just my small rant on this, I am just saying.

For all those people who are hating on the fact that there's no actual kryptonite in this movie. Read carefully. It's just not present in this movie in particular. It doesn't mean that it'll never exist. Just imagine how Lex will beat him without the green rock! It's not possible, right? Unless he's also a kryptonian like in Superman: Flyby (glad it didn't make it).

Superman has other weaknesses besides Kryptonite, red solar rays gradually or instantly shut down his powers making him "human." Magic wouldn't be used, but Parasite can absorb his powers and memories, Manchester Black used his telekinetic abilities to give him a seizure/stroke. A "powerful" telepath can attack his mind. There are ways to stop Superman without always resorting to Kryptonite. For a while... LET'S EXPLORE THEM!

And you are the same guys who hated my idea for changing Superman's origins. So Zack Snyder instantly says no Kryptonite and it's all yay! I guess you needed the words to come from a real donkeys mouth. Better change everything about him while you still can...

Also, @theMysteriousStranger--

Just because they said there is no kryptonite in this film, does NOT mean there isn't any kryptonite whatsoever!

Let superman enjoy his power THIS film...I'm thinkin a Metallo/Luthor film for MoS2..

Mark my words now... ;/

Consider for just a moment how Kryptonite could even be brought into this movie. Its Kryptonian vs. kryptonian. How would it even make a lick of sense for either side to use it? Now I don't agree with everything I've read about this movie but I don't have a problem with this bit. Zod is a radical patriot, how do you think he'd react to a little green piece of rock that hurts only his people and could possibly give a leg up to the humans? He'd destroy all of it.

Good! Kryponite has been such a phoned-in device for Superman in pretty much everything on screen since Donner's film. I'm glad to see them rid of it for now.

They're shaking things up a bit, providing anchors to a character that can easily spiral off into lame/silly on screen. Its a good call to leave some of this stuff for later stories instead of dumping it all on our laps in the first 40 mins of the movie. No one wants information overload marring what could be a great story. Nor do they need to over-complicate the story by adding in unnecessary elements that otherwise don't fit.

Though I have noticed most of the bitching about this movie is from people not letting go of Donner's movies for five [frick]ing minutes and allowing anyone to modernize and make it more relevant for today. They keep trying to drag Superman back under that shadow.

[frick], Marvel Studios has been tweaking histories and elements of their characters to make them more relevant and film friendly since Iron Man and its been a huge success. Because the essence of the characters are the same. So, like Marvel, as long as they maintain who the characters are, they can play around with the peripherals all they want.

Really, that should be the biggest worry, if any, that Superman remains the kind of dude he is in the comics. Not getting your tits twisted over theme songs and god damn kryptonite.

I hate the idea that Kal-El is unique on Krypton. I also hated the birthing matrix concept in the Byrne comic so doing a version of that here doesn't sit well with me at all.
