Nicolas Cage is no stranger to comic book movie adaptations, having starred as Marvel's Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider, in two films a few years back. Going even further back to 1998, Cage was on track to play the Man of Steel in Tim Burton's Superman Lives, a film that was eventually scrapped.
Coming off the recent indie gory action movie Mandy, Cage was asked by Variety if he could still see himself playing Superman.
"No, not at all," he responded. Given Cage's age, 54, the matter of fact response to the question doesn't really come as a surprise.
What might come as a surprise, however, is his response to his thoughts on the recent Justice League film.
"I thought it was fun. That's all I'm going to say," he offered.
Cage, who already has a lengthy list of blockbuster films under his belt, was asked if he would ever be interested in doing a different comic book tentpole. The actor admitted he would be if he felt the part was right.
"The comic book thing with me is a little blown out of proportion with the Internet. I grew up reading them and I always knew they would be — like once technology would be there, they would be the front of entertainment," Cage, who is a fan of comic books, said. "I don’t want you to get the wrong impression, that I’m sitting around reading comic books all day. I’ve kind of moved on. I don’t want to sound pompous and tell you what I read. My father was a professor of literature and he exposed me to Aldous Huxley, Hermann Hesse, and it goes on and on."
Getting to the point, Cage said, "So I like fiction, I like novels. But to answer your question, I would if I felt I could do something with the part."
Could you see Cage starring in a comic book movie at this stage of his career?
