MTV caught up with The Dark Knight Producer Michael Uslan at last weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago.

Uslan shared some of his thoughts on Christopher Nolan shepherding a reboot of the Superman movie universe. He even compared Superman's future in cinema to The Wrath of Khan.

Here is some of what he had to say...

"I think there are great things happening in the DC universe."

"I remember when 'Star Trek' first came out as a big motion picture,"
he said. "I couldn't wait for that big motion picture that was one of the most expensive films ever made at the time. But I was bored to death during the movie. They spent so much money, and excuse the pun, but it was like an alien experience compared to the 'Star Trek' I knew and loved."

"And then they came back,"
he continued. "They figured out what went awry, and they came back with 'The Wrath of Khan.' It was a kick-ass movie that brought back a villain from the show, it was action-packed, and it was something that the guys could all really get into. I would hope that Superman will have his own 'Wraith of Khan' in the years to come."

I wanna see Supes kick some ass. The biggest thing Warner Bros. should recognize is the fact that Superman has been fighting Luthor and made-up corporate criminals for too long. Superman has so much power and it's being wasted on catching large objects and getting cats out of trees.

I hope to the almighty that they don't mess up this film. I don't want to wait another thirty years to see supes flying again.

I hope they don't make superman dark .... He isn't suppose to be dark .

I agree with AxlKomix. Yeah, they need to bring something new to the table. Instead of shooting the same old boring Superman movies with Lex Luthor. We need to see him in Space, we need Mongul, Brainiac, Metallo, but not the lame versions of them like on Smallville. We need some high intensity Action and fights that drag out and Supes kicks butt.

Sounds like he hinting at a sequel, not a reboot.

Gtrman- I can go for something like that ... as long as Superman himself isn't dark.... As long as he is the beacon of light for everyone.

@ wolverinept – there hasn’t been a reboot as of yet. If the current plans continue through then this will be a reboot.

IMO I think a trilogy with the first having Metallo being manipulated by Lex as Lex looks into finding Doomsday or Brainiac would be a good first movie. Leaving Darksied for the 3rd or a possible JLA movie, anyway there are a lot of things that can be done. I don’t mind having Lex as villain orchestrated everything. I can be sure that the Lex in this film will not come close to the funny and comedic clowns of the past.

Perhaps even the 3rd film could have J'onn J'onzz travel through space to warn Earth about a Apokolips

@ LEEE777 - I doubt Routh will be brought back into the loop, having any remnants of Supes Returns will automatically have the movie starting off on the bad foot. It needs to be re-done all the way around. So I doubt Nolan will bring him in. Now Henry well I never seen the guy act, so I can't tell you what I think about it.

they need to stay away from Doomsday. He is the weakest excuse for a villain i've ever seen in comics...or ANYTHING for that matter.

i'm with gtrman. Bizarro. You know they won't make a movie without Lex, so have Lex create Bizarro, it would allow Lex to still be the villain in the first movie, while giving Superman someone to fight.

then in the sequels they can go the Brainiac route.

Darkseid should be saved for the JLA sequel.

if DC is smart, they'll do like Marvel...make a bunch of single character movies that lead to the JLA movie. then, in the JLA movie, they can use the villains from the individual movies to make the Legion of Doom. it would be a perfect reason for the heroes to team up. Then Darkseid in the sequel.

[frick] Henry Cavill. He's too short. We don't need another Dean Cain with a cape.

Tom Welling isn't bad, but it will never happen.

Doomsday should arrive on Earth at the end of the sequel, then him and Supes can be all part three with a hint at Darkseid which would lead to the JLA movie.

corndog@ doomsday is a weak character??...isnt he like...the exact oppisite of weak??
they should save darkseid 4 the jla movie?..ok maybe u hav the patience 2 wait 10 years but i dont...i think they should throw everything they hav in2 the 1st one!...make up 4 that last POS :)

@ XmutantX

dude...lol. okay, i didn't mean Doomsday is weak, like physically. i meant, he's a terrible character. he was created for the sole purpose of killing Superman, and they didn't even bother giving him a backstory. the guy can't even talk. I can understand them not wanting one of Superman's many villains to be the one to kill him on their 100th attempt. i get that. but they could have put at least a LITTLE effort into creating a good villain to kill the greatest hero of all friggin' time. instead we get a monster, that can't talk, with no past. OH, BUT HE'S STRONG!!!! so what??

is that seriously a good character to you?? is that a villain you want to see carry a Superman film?? or ANY film? no way.

and yeah, i would rather wait and watch things build up to Darkseid then have him thrown in too early. remember, Darkseid is pretty much the end all, be all of villains in DC. why blow your load so early?? make him the show stopper, even if it has to wait 10 years. i personally want to seea Legion of Doom movie for JLA because lets face it, the Legion aren't that scary after you see Darkseid and what he represents. if they did Darkseid in the first JLA movie, then every villain after that, short of the Anit-Monitor, seems pretty weak. (that was my biggest problem with the Blade movies. Blade fought and killed the EFFING Vampire GOD in the first movie! their GOD for crying out loud. whats scarier or more dangerous than that?? Even Drac isn't a GOD. So, even though i liked Blade 2 the most, i still didn't think the villain was as a big a threat as the Blood God)

people are just too willing to sacrifice quality for action, and thats not a good thing. action does NOT equal a quality story.

corndog@ haha i kno..i remeber reading the death of superman as a kid and was a lil dissapointed...they had so many great characters that couldnt even harm the guy..it was 2 over the top 4 me...(like alotta hulk storys)...
i agree with ur reasoning 4 darkseid down the road..im jus sayin..givin supermans track record in the film world...can they really risk putting out a superman movie as a planned 1st in a trilogy??...or would it be smarter 2 make 1 epic movie..and if that does well..then make a sequal or 2...if darkseid would be the greatest villian in a superman movie...then they hav 2 go 4 it..throw all there chips in..cus if yet another superman movie..is even jus sub-par...that franchise is doomed!

@ XmutantX

that is true, about the franchise being doomed with one more failure. but, they've never really tried anything outside of Lex. i think even the casual audience would be impressed if they made a movie with Brainiac, or Bizarro, or even Metallo. those guys all have the character depth to bring a very good story, as well as giving Supes a good fight. i don't think Darkseid is necessary to make a good movie. and thats all anyone wants.

remember, most of the general, non-comic reading audience has never even heard of Darkseid, so they wouldn't be missing him. all people want is a Superman movie with a good plot, and good action. and any of the characters i listed can bring that.

the only reason i say Bizarro in the first one is because Lex created him. having Lex in the movie would be a good way of doing a reboot, while keeping something recognizable to the general public. Lex is the big bad, and Bizarro is his enforcer. i think that would work great for a first movie. then, after that, move away from Lex, and start giving people something they've never seen, like Brainiac and so on.

just my opinions though, of course.
