SDCC '13: Jonathan Nolan Says He Won't Be Involved With 'BATMAN VS SUPERMAN'

"The Dark Knight Rises" screenwriter Jonathan Nolan says he won't be involved with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" sequel which will introduce a new Batman. Were you hoping that he would join the creative and team-up again with David S. Goyer?

The lone creative contributor within Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy has stated that despite a sequel that will include Batman, he won't be involved with the project. Speaking at SDCC to promote his CBS show "Person of Interest", screenwriter Jonathan Nolan made it clear that he won't be joining his brother (producer) or David S. Goyer (screenwriter) on the "Man of Steel' sequel. Said the younger Nolan sibling, "The fun thing about working with such an iconic character is you know when you're doing it that at some point you're going to wrap up your story and see what the next fella down the line has to say about it, so I'm very excited to see what they do with him." In these very early days of the project, it currently appears that Goyer and Snyder will handle writing duties on the project by themselves. There's been a sizable amount of nitpicking at the amount of straightforward exposition in "Man of Steel" and Jonathan Nolan's name has been brought up on quite a few message boards and comment threads as a missing ingredient from "The Dark Knight" recipe.

David Goyer is good at creating stories but when it comes to screenplays he tends to drop the ball at times.

I can't wait to see Snyder's take on Batman when it comes to his action sequences and his visuals. The only thing I'm worried about is Goyer's writing. I just want someone to help co-write with him.

Am I the only one who can't think of a good name for this movie? It better not be called Batman vs. Superman or Superman vs. Batman both of those sound terrible, anything with a "vs." in the name sounds bad really

Passing on the torch to the other guy nice! Just hope Goyer goes with him as well but most likely he won't which is sad! Goyer did say he was writing the story with Zack Synder, so lets hope its just the story and not the screenplay!

I hope the Batman they use is similar to the one in the Arkham games where he can beat up like 20 people at a time and just an all around badass. Batman in a way could possibly be sort of a villain in this movie probably til the end when he alearns that Superman can be trusted.

@demongodzo That's why he has Snyder co-writing with him.

....that's not good news.

Yeah, I'm actually excited to see Snyder's Batman. The Nolans films, especially the last one, just seemed to miss essential pieces of the Batman character. Like him obsessing over a childhood girlfiend, letting that standoff with harvey go down like it did, and most importantly quitting being Batman.

I don't know if they should use the name Superman vs Batman or Batman vs Superman. Since this is still the Man of Steel sequel, featuring Batman, they should call it something like Man of Steel: The Dark Knight.

I dont think Goyer's a bad writer but he is always better with help. I think the supposed script problems with MoS is exaggerated. He came up with some pretty memorable lines like the Krypton scenes, Supes childhood, The whole relationship with his 'parents', his whole arch of him finally steeping out. The only problem i had were a few lines such as 'Are they gone?' 'I think so' and 'Are you f'n stupid' (like no one says that). Other than that it was fine. However I think they should have Paul Dini work with him.

Though Batman will be featured i don't think he should be in the title...If so, they should go with the classic Worlds Finest as the title, if not then maybe something along the lines of just MOS:2 or Last Son of Krypton

Goyer is a comic geek. As is Snyder. They're perfect for the story.

But get a professional screen writer.

Please.
