SUPERMAN: DC "Insider" Says Key To Warner Bros.' Success Is Focusing On Henry Cavill's Man Of Steel

There's still no indication that Henry Cavill will get another chance to play Superman in the DCEU, but an insider at the studio has said that Warner Bros. should focus on that Man of Steel moving forward.

We've never really been made privy to the reason for Henry Cavill's DCEU absence. Some believe it's a money issue, while others feel Warner Bros. is doing everything possible to distance these movies from the Zack Snyder-era of storytelling (his take on Superman was nothing if not divisive).

Fans clearly want more of this Man of Steel, and one DC insider tells The Wrap that they believe the key to the DCEU's success is putting the focus back on Cavill's Kal-El.

Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav is looking to find new leadership for DC, and according to this unnamed source, "If anything they'll go back to individual movies unless De Luca has some plan. They need to get a f***ing Superman movie off the ground, and if the plan is a shared universe, a Cavill-led Superman needs to be the focal point."

This insider would go on to say that Zaslav's team "should scratch every Superman project in development and start fresh with Cavill."

Those projects are Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams' Superman movie about a Black Man of Steel and a live-action take on Val-Zod produced by, and starring, Michael B. Jordan. Whether Zaslav will feel they should be sidelined in preference of the classic Superman remains to be seen, but it seems most fans would rather see Cavill suit up again.

The Flash is rumoured to replace his Superman with Sasha Calle's Supergirl, which is no great surprise when, in recent years, the studio has used stand-ins for projects like Shazam! and Peacemaker.

Do you want to see more from Cavill's Man of Tomorrow in the DCEU?

But Warner Bros be like: “The key to our success is Batman, Batman, Batman, anything related to Batman. And also... Batman!”

(Proceeds to recast Henry Cavill as Batman 3000).

Cavill is close to 40, and moved on from the franchise YEARS ago.

Man of Steel is almost a DECADE old, some comic book movies that came out after Man of Steel:

Three Avengers movies
Two Venom movies
Four Spiderman movies (including a reboot)
Two Ant-Man movies (with a third one just months away)
Three Thor movies
Two Dr Strange movies
Two Wonder Woman movies
A Batman reboot
Four X-Men movies
Two Wolverine movies
Two Deadpool movies
Two Guardians of the Galaxy movies (with a third one just months away)

@TheHumanSpider2 - I'm pretty sure Cavill said he was ready to reprise the role anytime. They just weren't calling him to do it.

Having said that, you might not be wrong. If he's 40, they should probably look for someone a little younger if he's going to be the flagship character of a rebooted shared universe. He still looks amazing now, but what about 10 years from now?

@TheHumanSpider2 - Meanwhile the sequel to Top Gun releases 36 years later with a nearly 60 y/o Tom Cruise and does gangbusters.

@TheHumanSpider2 - He turned down a cameo in Shazam, cause of scheduling conflict(he was filming the Witcher).

We don’t know yet if he’s in The Flash

Give me a standalone sequel to Man of Steel with Henry Cavill. No need to mention the events of the Snyderverse. Maybe have him team up with Supergirl against Brainiac.

Cavill could easily be the best Superman since Reeves if they give him amazing material to work with. Cavill is game to reprise the role. All we need is a writer/director who's passionate about the material and studio execs willing to make it happen.
