With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 now in theaters, the movie's press tour has ended and filmmaker James Gunn can concentrate fully on his responsibilities running DC Studios and helming Superman: Legacy.
There's a huge amount of excitement to see what he does with the Man of Steel, and it sounds like we should definitely expect an appearance from Krypto the Superdog. While joking about offering Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt the role, Gunn essentially confirmed the beloved super-powered canine's presence in the 2025 reboot, news we're sure will be welcomed by fans.
"I was hoping to cast you as Krypto The Superdog," he said. "You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can't talk."
The apparent confirmation comes at the end of the video below when the interviewer suggests he just landed a "scoop" in learning about plans for Krypto. Of course, if you've been paying attention, this isn't a surprise as the dog-loving director has expressed interest in bringing Krypto back to our screens on a number of occasions.
Krypto being introduced in Superman: Legacy will likely set up an even larger role for the character in the DCU. He was a huge part of the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book and, as an upcoming movie shares a name with that popular run by Tom King, odds are Krypto will be just as important on-screen there as he was on the page.
DC Studios is expected to have a presence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and while it's too soon for a first look at many of these upcoming projects, we'll do doubt still get some big news at the annual event.
Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.
