SUPERMAN : MAN OF STEEL

THE NEXT MAN OF STEEL IS...

So we are to expect a new Superman film in 2010. The news is that it will be a reboot. Okay, “ Superman” The Movie was made 30 years ago, but is still a timeless classic . So do we really need another origin story? Let’s be honest, it will not compare to the original. Can’t we just have another Superman story which continues on from “Returns.” I know some people didn't like it, but it did get good reviews, and Brandon Routh was excellent as Clark Kent/Superman.

Maybe it needed a few changes such as another actress to play Lois Lane, Anne Hathaway comes to mind.
As for Lex Luthor I think Kevin Spacey was okay, but I would like to see John Malcovich in the role.
And finally Perry White, Frank Langella just didn't do it for me, someone like Jon Voight.
Perhaps they could bring in Kate Mara to play Lana Lang.
Finally, who should play the man of steel? Why not bring back Brandon Routh, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If they do an origin story, no doubt they will have Lex Luthour as the main villain. If they decide on a different story, why not use villains like Brainiac or Darksied. I'm still interested to see where they were planning to go with Superman's son. Was he to be killed off, lose his powers? My idea: he is sent threw some time hole and comes back as an adult villain ( just like they did in the tv show Angel).

Another rumor is that they are giving the director’s chair to an unknown. Is this a wise decision? I recall seeing in an old interview that Spielberg always wanted to make a Superman movie. Now that would be fantastic. Who else would be a good choice? Peter Jackson, James Cameron…

All I ask is the film should have plenty of action, humor, adventure, and a tiny bit of romance. And please, please, please keep the John Williams score.

Agreed with biohazard.. I had a hard time trying to find a guy who could act and be bulky enough. My guess is that they've already cast him and he's working out as we speak hence the christmas release date being so far off.. I think Jensen Ackles would be the shtuff!

Anne Hathaway just doesn't have the spunk needed to play Lois Lane. We need someone who could kick Luthor's balls with her hand tied behind her back. And though John Malcovich could play evil, I see him more as a lazy ass ruler who thinks that his slow-paced talk is going to kill the good guy.

@VirtualVD: I agree with you...Routh doesn't deserve a second chance. Nearly 2 decades of Superman being "dead" on the silver-screen...spent all that time in development hell only for his final return to the silver-screen RUINED by the likes of Singer and Routh.

I agree that ROUTH wear the prmary colors once again. He was great in the last film despite what critizisms hes recieved. He was a serious SUPERMAN and his role as Kent was great too. Clark is supposed to be a completely different character, especially personality wise than the MAN OF STEEL. He did that for me in RETURNS.
However, if they do bring him back they have to keep other key characters/actors the same to keep the integrity of the film. granted in DARK KNIGHT, BATS' love interest was a different actress than in the first film and it was epic. But to change the entire cast besides the MAN OF STEEL just seems unacceptable. Hollywood has been there and done that to other franchises and when they have, epic failure has been the outcome. People want to see continuations so peices will come together in the big picture = JLA movie. It just makes sense.
I propose the following....perhaps we dont need Lois Lane in th upcoming MAN OF STEEL. Shes on vacation or doing a story in another country. Iraq or Africa...anyways shes a long ways away and the only time we see her mug is perhaps in a photo that SUPES occasionaly reminisces upon. Lex Luther, last i remember was on a deserted island with his ho and a helicopter that had no fuel. So lets begin MAN OF STEEL with Lex back in the slammer and end MAN OF STEEL with LUTHER in the slammer. Superboy was quite the shocker for many of us but personally dint leave a sour taste in my mouth... i just found it interesting and never for a moment believed that hollywood would allow him do be supes apprentice, grow and be a heroe too so i didnt let it bother me. I still believe that if they continue the story line from RETURNS they can still make it amazing.
As for PERRY WHITE and OLSON...they need to be the same actors... you cant change everyone and have the franchise succeed. Sure Langella was taller and different from the '78 version but he was good and OLSEN was OLSEN.
I know im new here and my opinion may not weigh much but at least you got to hear my beef. Cheers!

P.S. I know theres Speculation to us getting a SUPES film by DEC of this year but it wont happen. Unfortunatly.

The problem with Routh wasn't all on the shoulders of Singer, yeah Singer is mostly to blame for the failure of that last film...but Routh's bad acting didn't help either. Even the few lines he had...he kinda butchered, he sounded very mono-tone and lacked emotion. The bar scene in particular where he drank with Jimmy...when Routh started talking it showed just how inexperienced he really was. The only reason most of you out there want Routh to come back is because he wore the Superman suit on the big screen...and the fact that he looks like Chris Reeve (which in my opinion he doesn't look THAT much like him to begin with) but those aren't reasons he should come back...he was hired to be Superman based on the fact that he looked like Chris Reeve...but he SHOULD have been hired not for the former actor but rather for the character- SUPERMAN. And he should have been hired for his acting ability...not for his looks.

Is it bad acting to portray a script that one is given? I dont think it was necessarily bad acting...it was Reeves in Rouths body and to some it didnt portray well...to others it did. But by far Singers RETURNS was better than the 3rde and 4th REEVES films. I personlly just think that its a mistake to be giving up on the Singers cast just yet. Giving Routh another chance at SUPES is what i needed instead of doing another film with a different actor and having it turn to sh*t too. I mean thats what happened to Batman 3 and 4. Lets change Batman but keep the same commisioner Gordon? The fan base was already used to KEATON as BATMAN. Just like WE ALL are already used to REEVES but for obvious reasons HE was unable to RETURN...so we picked ROUTH who was very similar to REEVES but wasnt REEVES so he got crapped on for it. GIve ROUTH another shot ...and you give the fan base another opportunity to really recognize him for SUPERMAN. Its just idiocy to keep changing actors on such an iconic figure. IMO.

That was a terrible comparison...ANY film is better than Superman 3 and 4, those films were terrible but at least they had ACTION...at least they didn't make Supes into a bastard father/stalker. And yeah like i said, most of the blame belongs to Singer, but Routh had monotone acting, that's not something that Singer can control, that's all on Brandon's shoulders.

As for Singer's Superman franchise...as a lifelong Superman-fan, I am HAPPY they ended it. That film nearly destroyed Superman and everything he ever stood for. He had sex with lois then erased her memory and abandoned her...how the [frick] is THAT representative of- "truth" and "justice"?

I like what your selling but I don't accept SR has a good sequal to the Donner films. I say "Re-sequal" and push the franchise to the next level of action and progression. Re-establish the character in a modern world and let the first two Superman films be prolog. Move on with it.

@JYCowboy: I couldn't agree with you more. It's amazing to look back and think that Superman Returns was by far one of the LONGEST superhero films stretching to 2 1/2 hours and yet during that nearly 3 hour film, Supes didn't throw a single punch, nor get into a single fight. Superman Returns should have been the film to re-establish Superman for the modern audience...but instead he went back to what i call the "Donner Basics" and nearly re-killed the struggling franchise. For that- I hate Bryan Singer.

so hate the SINGER and not the Song. Starting over is a baaaaaaad idea. Just get a better SINGER and we will hve a better song. lol. If Rouths acting was so apauling and wasnt the way Singer wanted it then im sure we all would have seen a different Superman/CK

I was reading over what you wrote at the top of the page...and it seems you're angry about the reboot because you don't want another origin story. Well IF you had been actually paying attention to all the news and interviews with Chris Nolan, he already confirmed MONTHS ago that it would NOT be another origin story. So there you go. And no Brandon Routh sucks. Him and Bryan Singer need to stay FAR away from Superman.

tranquilo LP4, I never insinuated that NOLAN was doing another origin story. Im all up for a NOLAN SUPERMAN. Im Pumped for it. I just hope that he doesnt start ovr with a completely new cast. Keeps things interesting... but i guess some people are looking for INSTANT GRATIFICATION. but we wont get that if we start over with new cast and different story. IMO. you have a right to have yor own. CHEERIO.

Brandon Routh has to be back. He can do with brushing up his acting skills but that can be done easily. I am liking the idea of Malkavic for the Luthor role. I would like to see Odette Yustman or Missy Peregrym as Lois Lane though. They got that bad ass chick aura about them. Micheal Cera or Shia Lebeof would have been perfect for Jimmy role. As for Perry White, I think Jon Voight would be perfect. And the Nolans has to direct it. Thats my opionion anyway.
