"Superman Unleashed" Title Bodes Well for Sequel

A slashfilm scooper spoiled the title of the next Superman film, and with a name like this, it looks like Warner Bros is heading in the right direction with the franchise.

This passcode protected spillage is wonderful news for Supe's future in film. Just read the description on the title card. This is exactly what the fans have been hoping for.

Bryan Singer's reflective take on the Man of Steel with his "Superman Returns" movie was a disappointment to long time fans who wanted the helmer to give Supes something to punch. Bringing Lex Luthor in yet AGAIN as the villain was also a missed opportunity to delve more deeply into the DC Universe of badguys.

It is unclear whether Singer is attached as director--especially since his chosen title for the sequel was supposed to be "Man of Steel." But even if Warner Bros does do this one with him as helmer again, it sounds like they've listened to the fans about giving the franchise more action.

Our thanks to /Film and their awesome spys. Head over there for the whole story on how this came about.

I don't know if I'm too excited about the title, or the direction. If they want to add some more excitement and action, by all means... But "darker" is not necessarily what everyone wants to see. I do hope for a new villain, and a different direction for our hero besides "inner struggle"... (groan)

(I have this nagging suspicion that we're going to see Supes in his black and white "Ceremonial Krypton" attire.)

I predict the "unleashed" part means we're finally going to see Superman like he was meant to be portrayed: as a cross dressing drag queen! HAHA! Totally kidding.

@WisconsinCharm

The Hulk reboot was just that, a reboot. It had no ties to the first film. They're calling "Superman Unleashed" a sequel to Superman Returns which means no reboot.

I hope that actually make a good Superman movie. They should give him the longer hair like in the 90's comics...it was way cooler than that boyscout look. I'm not to excited because I've been dissapointed before with the other Superman movies...except the second one is pretty good.

I just want to know one thing - is this a 'darker' Superman, or is he still going to be the 'Big Blue Boy Scout' I've grown up with? If it's the former, COUNT ME OUT!!!

Totally agree joob234 darkseid or doomsday. Id wanna see darkseid in the reboot and then see doomsday in the reboot's sequel. Darkseid badass wants to conquer the universe and rule with ultimate power....Doomsday even more badass wants to destroy the universe and all in it. Definately save the challenge for Supes in the sequel. I would also keep Brandon Routh but beef him up a bit.

Yes, keep Brandon, and you can still have a few things going like Brainiac plotting a scheme, while Sups fight Doom’sD or Dark’s. They could also make a cool Bizzaro Type of guy….or not, I’m not familiar with all of the Superman Villains, But I would love to see the Superman Clone from Legions some how travel back and who knows duke it out with our superman 4 some odd reason.

I have to also add…I like the Kell-El 41st century Sups outfit better. Since this would be a continuation I say start with the classic suit, let it get trashed, then come out with the new suit. They can even show him with another classic suit at the very end…that way if the movie catches some backlash they can have him pop up in the old suit for the next movie.

if Superman has taught me anything over the past 20 years it's not to get my hopes until they start filming.

As long as the plot follows the conventional Superman storyline (none of that Elseworld stuff, it's good to read but it's not for the silver screen - especially considering the lack of New Earth Superman films), and as long as it's not a 'dark' Superman then I will be happy.

I'm a fan of Comic Book Movies but not necessarily their associated comic books. It's not that I don't like them... I just don't have much time for reading the comics anymore. But in this, my first post, I wanted to let everyone know where my opinion is coming from: simply a fan of superhero/sci-fi/fantasy flicks.

I liked Superman Returns. It took a few viewings to get there but I really like it now. I think it's a fitting transitional film to move us from the Donner Supes to a Supes for this generation, and a nice tribute. That being said, I also hope for a butt-kicking sequel. I think Bryan Singer went out on a limb with the kid thing but it's really the only Superman story I haven't seen yet.

That being said, I haven't been reading the comics for 60 years so I might have missed something...!

Rock on friends...!

I believe it would be interesting to introduce Braniac. He is one of the only villains would could appeal to all of Superman's powers (speed, flight, intelligence, strength), he's big enough to provide a global threat. As much as I'd love to see Doomsday, it wouldn't fit in one movie. I liked the Hulk remake, and he didn't fight Abomination until the end. I'd have to be on drugs if I thought they'd leave Superman dead until another movie could be made. That kind of story telling just doesn't fit on the big screen very well

What a colossal blunder!

Why would they connect anything to a trashy franchise like SR???

Brandon Routh couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag! Pleaseeeeee! There are other human beings that could fill this role. Don't get stuck in the head that Brandon is it. There are others that can actually act. C'mon, people! Don't settle for mediocrity. Was he so overwhelmingly convincing in that role? Honestly????

The answer is no.

I think fans were so hard-up for a supes film that they settled for crap!

And will settle for it again, it seems...

I have to agree with Majick, they should totally go the Brainiac route. It's WAY to early for a Supes vs Darkseid or Doomsday scenario. WAY to early. They can't just jump from Lex to Doomsday, NOT going to happen.

I would hope, as LoganOneil says, to stay with the "Big Blue Boy Scout" role, because a "darker" Superman just isn't his schtick, leave the darkness to Bats and put Supes in a position where he actually has to UNLEASH his true abilities beyond just some random strength scenes and inner demons. Give me a fight, both of WITS (with Brainiac) and of BRAWN (with Brainiac controlled minions) let him get out some agression on Robots that he can smash and blow up (because he's not going to kill or even seriously MAIM anyone, not yet)

They better NEVER do Bizarro, I freakin' HATE that character. What a complete and utter waste of space, SERIOUSLY. Get rid of that turd and give me Brainiac, or Metallo. HECK I'd even dig Mxzyptlk tormenting him and Metallo and him brawling. Cool stuff.

It'd be cool if they got Brainiac as the main villain and used a similar way the origin was told in the first two...three episodes of the "Superman Animated Series" way back in the late 90's. (Which I think was taken from the reboot of Superman's character in the comics) But done in scattered flashbacks throughout the film. The whole Brainiac being the computer that prevented the Kryptonians from surviving their planet's fate and trying to get Jor El arrested etc. etc.

I agree that tossing in Doomsday or Darkseid is far too much of a leap and would just hurt those characters. The Brainiac route is a good way to go, you could uncover more specific points of Kal-El's history as well as open up the idea of other alien forms/beings for future installments.

If they do a sequel of Superman Returns, then in the first scene they should show Supes kid refusing to clean his room, so Lois gets pissed and calls Clark. Clark flies over and asks the kid to pick up his toys, when the boy refuses Clark picks him up by the head and flies up above the house and with all his strength launches the kid into space where he splats against the "Kryptonite Island" like a water balloon. Then he floats back down, picks up Lois and stuffs his head between her legs until he's tightly fitted up her baby gape. Then uses his heat vision to fry her uterus so we don't have to suffer through another "super-kid" thing.

...or something like that.

They just need to start titling reboots what they are, like "Superman rebooted", That way we know that it has nothing to do with any movie before it. Lets just hope they get it right this time and have superman be superman and kick the shit out of something.
